Hello fellow Hiveans!
Here today with views of a quaint village called Warkworth in the north east of England.
Considering the history of this charming place, I think the B&W treatment really suits this set of shots. The church is the oldest building in the town dating back to 737AD England and was a gift to local monks. Before the village was established, it was the location of a bloody battle when the Scots invaded.
The castle was built around the 12th century, originally of timber construction. It was quickly abandoned when the Scots invaded again.
Soon after, a new and improved stone castle replaced it. When the Scots returned in the 14th century, they were unsuccessful in their siege.
By the 18th century, the castle began to all into ruin. Parts of the tower and wall were crumbling and were repaired soon after.
In the 1920's, a moat was carved out around the perimeter.
