When I was a kid, the ultimate LEGO Technic car from the first mail-order catalog that I can remember was a red beast with full suspension and a working transmission. This new set is not quite so mechanically advanced, the Technic design philosophy has shifted away from having any studded bricks visible, and most beams have no studs at all now. This set also features no transmission, differentials, or suspension components, but it was still quite the project. I present to you the McLaren Senna!
Unfortunately, my craptastic rural internet made image uploads difficult, but I think this update will let me show off the construction process.
The detail looks pretty impressive, and box art on LEGO is usually accurate, unlike the Dollar Tree garbage.
The bags are numbered, and this time it actually means they should only be opened when directed in the instructions.
I may legally be an adult, but something about this brick is making me giggle in a very juvenile way. What do you think, @meesterboom?
Here's the engine assembly. There's a basic crankshaft assembly to push up the "cylinders." One of the rear wheels powers the geartrain, and the other spins freely.
The frame adds lots of odd angles. This would not work well with the old-school studded beams.
There are a few classic bricks here, but only where necessary for detailed elements like the rear diffuser. And there are no studs visible. Lots of smooth plates finish everything.
I usually leave off stickers when I build, but this car didn't seem complete without them. I like the look.
