HALLOWEEN STYLE MATTERS

Well, before we start talking in theory about Halloween or the "Witch Day", (as it is called in Brazil) it is worth highlighting the importance of having these festive dates that really help us celebrate life in a fluid way. However, behind practically all of these important dates there is a story or legend important enough to create a present date within the global calendar, which currently revolves around capitalism.

THE SIMPLIFIED EXPLANATION

Halloween is a strong cultural tradition in the United States, but it emerged among the Celts who lived in the region where Ireland is today, around 2500 years ago.

Since Antiquity, several popular festivities have been surrounded by the appreciation of the opposites that rule the world. YIN YANG

Carnival presents a clear example of this, preceding all the resignation of Lent. In the case of Halloween, the festival takes place the day before the “feast of all saints” and, therefore, its name is inspired by the expression “All Hallow's Eve”, which means “the eve of all saints”.

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st, the date that marks Samhain (the Celtic New Year), the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere, and is also the eve of All Saints' Day (01/11).

More than 2 thousand years ago, this time of year was already celebrated in mystical rituals by the Celts to mark the beginning of the coldest and darkest seasons in the Northern Hemisphere.

For the Celts, November 1st was surrounded by a sacred and extremely positive value. These ancient people who inhabited the British Isles believed that the world would be threatened on the eve of the event by the action of terrible demons and ghosts.

In this way, “Halloween” was born as a symbolic concern, a party surrounded by strange and bizarre figures with the aim of warding off the influence of evil spirits that would threaten their crops.
Halloween was introduced to the United States by Irish immigrants in 1840.

The links with the Celtic tradition, and even with religiosity, were lost over the years. Currently, Halloween is more of a commercial tradition. On October 31st, children go out in costume, knocking on house doors and saying the traditional phrase: “trick or treat”, to win sweets. Among adults, decorating homes and exchanging gifts is common.

Halloween was spread throughout the world by American cinema. In Brazil, in addition to television, language schools introduced the party among children and young people with the aim of presenting a traditional celebration of American culture.

In the Middle Ages, tradition was a reason for persecution and condemnation (at the stake) by the Church.

It was at the time of the Inquisition that the name “Halloween” was adopted, and that the Church created All Souls' Day (November 2).

In a statement made in 2009, the Vatican condemned Halloween as a dangerous festival carried by various anti-Christian elements. In Brazil, we observed that some people turn up their noses at the celebration of the event because they understand it as a distant manifestation of our culture.

Ultimately, a lot is said about it, but few are those who thoroughly examine the meanings and origins of such a festival.

Saci-PererĂȘ is a legendary figure in Brazilian mythology, especially associated with the folklore regions of Brazil. He is usually depicted as a one-legged black youth who wears a red cap and is known for his mischief and magical abilities. Just Amazing...

Check out some characteristics of Saci-PererĂȘ:

  • One leg: The Saci-PererĂȘ is often portrayed as having only one leg, which gives it impressive agility and speed.

  • Red cap: He is usually seen wearing a red cap that gives him magical powers, and it is believed that when he takes off the cap, Saci loses his abilities.

  • Mischief: Saci is known for his mischievous nature and likes to play tricks on people, such as hiding objects, undoing horse knots and doing unusual things.

  • Protector of the forest: Although he is a malicious character in many cases, Saci-PererĂȘ is considered a protector of the forest and animals, and is often seen as an ambivalent figure.

  • Part of Brazilian folklore: Saci-PererĂȘ is part of the rich Brazilian folklore and is a popular figure in stories, legends and traditional tales.

In Brazil, Saci Day is celebrated on October 31st, as an alternative to Halloween, celebrating the traditions and legends of Brazilian folklore rather than foreign culture.

THIS IS THE END MY DEAR FRIEND

Halloween is an important holiday because of its rich cultural history, its focus on fun and creative expression, its ability to bring communities and families together, and its role in exploring supernatural themes. Furthermore, it is a time of significant economic opportunity.
