First Day of Misa de Gallo | Typhoon Odette Anniversary

Misa de Gallo happens every year before the day of Christmas. The mass started at 4:30 in the morning but people arrived at the church at 4 to attend the Rosary as well. Except for those sections of each Brgy.s that are in charge of morning snacks or morning coffee. They woke up earlier. They are preparing the food of course because after the mass the food will be distributed.

You can tell that the presence of Christmas is near. Aside from telling that the spirit of Christmas starts in the month of "ber" like September. Simply because this month you can see houses are decorating Christmas lights and decorations. Not just houses but also business establishments are doing the same. They've done it to attract more customers since they knew that Filipinos do love Christmas.

The colorful lights and decorations encourage for sure people to come and see. Most of them are found taking photos in that place and posted in social media right away. Thanks to it, a lot of people learned about it and will give ideas about where or which place they will go when they're free.

You can tell that joy showers, everyone, because of the spirit of Christmas. Not just joy I guess but love as well. I don't know why but it just feels that way during the Christmas season. Maybe because they all wanted to feel better inside, we all know how good it is when we give love and joy to someone. Uplifting feeling for sure is what people get by doing things like that.

By the way, did you remember how the Visayas and Mindanao were devastated by that typhoon? Yes, that typhoon named Odette destroyed a lot of houses and a lot of people were homeless after. It was Christmas and should be a happy season but couldn't do by the people who were affected. I was the same, our house was destroyed and I felt desperate about where to shelter the day after when it rains.

My heart was shattered seeing my mom eating under the temporary plastic material to hide herself from the rain. It was so painful to remember that those days were so dark that it was hard to find the light. Not ignoring the fact that electricity was never found in those days too.

I gave up when it happened and I never thought we could recover from that destruction. Somehow we managed to build an incomplete house until now. It's already been a year but it was not easy to build a house, especially these days when everything is expensive. Even so, I'm thankful that we can shelter ourselves from the rain and the heat of the sun. It may not be the same as in the old days, but I know that slowly we can be happy living in a house far from danger.

Sorry, it's Christmas, it should be positive thoughts but I couldn't help remembering what has happened. It was not easy though but we're slowly claiming the joy that Christmas gives. I'll make sure to keep on moving on because what is important is that no lives of my loved ones were taken by that typhoon.

Thank you for reading.
