Two of the cabin renovation projects are now complete, the trash heap blocking wall and a baby/litter barrier, all made from wood to keep with the theme.
The Last Chili 🌶️
Before I go into details about the latest wave of construction, I would like to show you the last chili of the garden. This little red beauty was hanging on for dear life after all his friends had either been eaten or fallen off. The only patch of good soil we had on our land will now become part of the new house, kind of a bummer.
The Wood Pile Grows 🪵
For the past several weeks, we all have been contributing to the woodpile, roughly sorting things according to size and grade. After the fence and patio projects were completed there was a lot of leftover wood, but the guys sort of left it all where it fell. The poor Indiana farm boy was taught never to let things go to waste, and besides there is plenty of value and repurposing potential left in all these scraps and planks.
🏞️ Loving The New Vibe 🛟
In the previous cabin renovation post, I shared with you the finished wall in the above photo. Well, it's kind of a wall, I like the staggered picket style that allows a bit of wind and light to pass through. The wall has now been stained and the neighbor's trash heap is no longer a constant eyesore. I continued the style into the corner seat and the rest of the handrail, and it's made the space a little more usable during the constant rain and wind we have here. Having a barrier around the bottom also prevents trash and valuables from flying over the edge of the deck.
⛰️ The Views Aren't Bad
As I was taking photos, I noticed it was not long before sundown, so I killed a few minutes and waited for the sun to start dipping behind the mountain. There's a really beautiful twilight over the outline of the mountains each evening, and it never gets any less beautiful.
I usually don't take vertical photos, but I've noticed that I am unable to fit the view of the rapids, forest, and mountains all in one shot horizontally. I decided to break from my comfort zone and take this vertical shot to showcase the view from our veranda, absolutely out of this world.
We also have finally installed a gutter to catch the rain runoff from the roof. It used to hit the hit the handrail and spray in all directions, making the veranda space unusable during even the lightest of rains. We can enjoy a corner of this space during even the hardest of sideways rain. The tiny pickets on the bottom half of the handrail also make me feel more comfortable when families with small children stay here, such a long fall. Okay, that sums it up for now, time to get this post and save some time for engagement.
