Impossible Mission Revised Edition Released for Commodore 64

Impossible Mission is a classic through and through. It is tough as nails and more unforgiving than your mother in-law over you taking her ‘baby’. It is also a title that saw release on many platforms back in the day, and fans are handling more ports (such as to the Atari Lynx). Other fans are handling fixing up the Commodore 64 version adding quality of life hacks.

Fine Line to Walk When Working on Classics

Classics earn that monicker for a reason. Understandably, many feel classics should not be messed with. I am in the camp that believes if you can make it better, do it, the original is still available for purists.

Taking on a classic like Impossible Mission though can be a touchy subject, even for me. I played this game whenever I got a chance, no matter what platform, I at least gave it a try. Some were better than others, of course.

Impossible Mission Revised is different than Impossible Mission 3 and the Atari Lynx port. This is a revision, as the name implies.

Fixing Broken Things Improving Others

Improvements were made here and there, mostly cosmetic some are quality of life. The one I am most excited about is the map. When you clear a room, it will be hollow on the mini map so you know you don’t have to trek back across the facility searching in vain. Nice touch.

The game clock is now set to military time. Puzzle rooms are clearly marked on the mini map as well as the door to Elvin’s lair – again, nice touch.

Some of the robots even have improved animation now. Talk about niceties worth having.

There are a ton more changes but these stood out to me. For the full list, check out Lemon64.com.
