We all have some specific activities that we like to do in video games, one activity that I like a lot is to look for references to other video games, look for easter eggs and many more activities that are out of the common gameplay, it is normal, it is what we need in some occasions to get a more versatile experience when we enjoy a videogame, but, in my list of activities when trying a game there is one that I can't stop doing, like if it was an addiction problem, I'm talking about modding a game, something that makes me ask myself why I do it.
Todos tenemos algunas actividades en específico que nos gusta hacer en los videojuegos, una actividad que me gusta mucho es buscar referencias hacia otros videojuegos, buscar easter eggs y muchas más actividades que se salgan del gameplay común, es algo normal, es lo que necesitamos en algunas ocasiones para obtener una experiencia más versátil cuando disfrutamos de un videojuego, pero, en mi lista de actividades a la hora de probar un juego hay una que no puedo parar de hacer, como si se tratase de un problema de adicción, estoy hablando de modear un juego, algo que hace que me pregunte a mí mismo el por qué lo hago.
Well, I have already explained several times in Hive what mods mean to me, mods are one of the fundamental pieces for a game to connect with its audience in a more personal way, thanks to this are created communities of modders who are dedicated to this, create mods as long as we leave our personal mark on the game in question, the birth of these communities is a symbol of the union of players that seeks to extend much more the life time of a game and share with other players our creations, a clear example of this is the GTA, an amazingly large community that has existed for many years.
Bueno, ya he explicado varias veces en Hive lo que significan para mí los mods, los mods son una de las piezas fundamentales para que un juego conecte con su audiencia de una manera más personal, gracias a esto se crean comunidades de modders que se dedican a esto, crear mods con tal de que dejemos nuestra marca personal en el juego en cuestión, el nacimiento de estas comunidades es un símbolo de la unión de jugadores que busca extender mucho más el tiempo de vida de un juego y compartir con otros jugadores nuestras creaciones, un claro ejemplo de esto son los GTA, una comunidad asombrosamente grande que existe desde hace muchísimos años.
Y a mí que un juego me permita modificarlo a mi manera es un flechazo directo al corazón, luego de explorar todo su contenido original y asegurarme que no me pierdo de mucho, procedo a instalar mods, pero no solo unos pocos, paso horas y horas buscando esos mods que me llamen la atención, para luego instalarlos y jugar ese conjunto de modificaciones hecho por mí, y al cabo de un tiempo de haber disfrutado lo suficiente esos mods, los remplazo por otros, y de vuelta a lo mismo, duro horas buscando más mods.
And to me that a game allows me to modify it in my own way is a crush straight to my heart, after exploring all its original content and make sure I do not miss much, I proceed to install mods, but not just a few, I spend hours and hours looking for those mods that catch my attention, then install them and play that set of modifications made by me, and after a while of having enjoyed those mods enough, I replace them with others, and back to the same thing, I spend hours looking for more mods.
It's something strange because I spend more time looking for and installing mods than the time I spend playing with them, I don't know why this is, but I guess it's because I like to see in a videogame those modifications made by me, to see a game that in part moves away from its original content because of me, it's a bit satisfying, well not a bit, quite satisfying I would say, sometimes it's a problem because in some occasions I corrupt the game files and damage it, then I have to reinstall them and try from the beginning, it's very normal that I last more time modding the game than playing it.
Es algo raro porque paso más tiempo buscando e instalando mods que el tiempo que paso jugando con ellos, no sé a qué se debe esto, pero supongo que es porque me gusta ver en un videojuego esas modificaciones hechas por mí, ver un juego que en parte se aleja de su contenido original por mi culpa, es un poco satisfactorio, bueno un poco no, bastante satisfactorio diría yo, a veces es un problema porque en algunas ocasiones corrompo los archivos del juego y lo daño, luego tengo que reinstalarlos e intentar desde el principio, es muy normal que dure más tiempo modeando el juego que jugándolo.
Esto no es algo que haya empezado a hacer hace poco, llevo años haciendo esto, desde niño diría yo, creo que el primer juego donde todo empezó fue en el GTA San Andreas, con los típicos mods del Big Foot, Skin Selector y muchos más, y así fue evolucionando y fui aplicándo esta dinámica a otros juegos como Max Payne o Counter-Strike, algo que me pasaba era que descargaba packs de mods para Minecraft y luego no sabía que hacer, no sabía de que se trataban los mods y siempre terminaba perdido sin saber que hacer, he visto a varias personas que también les gusta hacer esto, y también he visto a muchas que se dedican más a la creación de esos mods más que a jugar el juego en sí, estoy seguro que a más de 1 usuario en Hive a parte de mí también pasa horas y horas modeando un juego.
This is not something I started to do recently, I've been doing this for years, since I was a kid I would say, I think the first game where it all started was in GTA San Andreas, with the typical mods of Big Foot, Skin Selector and many more, and so it was evolving and I was applying this dynamic to other games like Max Payne or Counter-Strike, something that happened to me was that I used to download mod packs for Minecraft and then I didn't know what to do, I didn't know what the mods were about and I always ended up lost without knowing what to do, I have seen several people who also like to do this, and I have also seen many who are more dedicated to the creation of these mods rather than playing the game itself, I'm sure that more than 1 user in Hive besides me also spends hours and hours modding a game.
Llegué a un punto donde tenía el juego instalado varias veces en diferentes carpetas, porque algunos mods no eran compatibles con otros y al unirlos en un mismo juego estos hacían que el juego se crasheara, mientras escribo este post me doy cuenta que parece que estuviese escribiendo un post sobre una adicción a alguna droga, pero en fin, es verdad que la dedicación que tenía hacia la modificación de juegos era bastante grande, pero creo que es algo normal en algunas personas cuando jugamos a algo mínimamente modeable, al final es como dijo al principio, a todos nos gusta agregar nuestro propio toque a un videojuego que nos guste, para crear una especie de cercanía con ese juego.
I reached a point where I had the game installed several times in different folders, because some mods were not compatible with others and by joining them in the same game they made the game crash, as I write this post I realize that it seems that I was writing a post about a drug addiction, but anyway, it is true that the dedication I had towards modifying games was quite big, but I think it is something normal in some people when we play something minimally modeable, in the end it is like you said at the beginning, we all like to add our own touch to a video game that we like, to create a kind of closeness with that game.
