Otherworld Legends - A fun Roguelike Action RPG on mobile

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

I don't usually play mobile games, but when someone posted about this game in the HiveGaming community a few days ago, it drew my attention. I had to try it and see if it played as good as it looked.

I am a big fan of Pixelated graphics and Rouge like as a genre has delivered some good games recently. I installed the game right after I was finished reading that post. But for some reason, I couldn't play it. Today, I gave it a shot and was impressed with how good it feels to play this.

As I said, it is a roguelike where you play as one of the many unique heroes with unique abilities and weapons. You can choose to equip a primary and a secondary ability from the four abilities that a hero comes with. These abilities have further unlockable variations so you can really customise each hero to your playstyle.

You progress through realms with unique enemies and bosses. Each room you clear gives you an end chest to pick up one of the three items. They could be different weapons or abilities or just buffs. This makes your hero stronger as you progress.

You can also get a soul which you can use to get a random buff to your abilities so you have an even stronger build or skills.

There is a special room where a vendor sells you a weapon in exchange for coins. You can also get a random weapon for 100 coins. These coins can be acquired throughout the run by defeating enemies or by just clearing the rooms.

These weapons have innate bonuses ranging from more damage, movement speed, burn/heat/poison/blast damage etc.

Some special rooms have further challenges and means of unlocking the story. I am not focusing on the story at the start. The gameplay loop is really fun and I am trying to get as much powerful as I can.

The bosses that you encounter are unique. I have seen many already and don't know how many are left.

A run can last for half an hour easily, especially at the start where you want to explore every room and try to figure out the builds. I told you already that you can pick up equipment that buffs your hero for the given run. But there are only a limited number of equipment slots. Fortunately, there is a merge mechanic where you can combine three of your spare items and get a powerful item.

You can only merge these items in a specific room using the help of a machine.

There are a ton of items and you can read about them from a book. You still need to encounter that item once to see its entry added to the journal.

The final boss is the Asurandra or Asura, he is the guy who created this Mirage world where we do our runs. We encounter him at the end of the run. He had three different phases each with a unique set of moves.

Only the final phase was a bit of a challenge for me. It still felt a bit too easy. After you beat him he comes to the lobby and you can use your gems earned (after completing the runs) to enhance your stats permanently. But it is a really slow grind. This makes sense as they sell those gems and other items so the developers want people to spend money and skip the grind.

The cost increases exponentially with each level and the percentage increase starts decreasing. But at least you gain rewards from a run even if you fail to complete it.

Another thing you can do after defeating the Asura in the normal mode is increase the difficulty. There are four more levels of difficulty after this and it makes sense because the game felt like a bit too easy on Normal difficulty. There are items to enhance your power even more but these are only dropped by bosses in hard or higher level difficulty.

There is a battle pass along with a free tier. Naturally, the free one offers a lot less rewards than the premium one. Apart from this, there are daily challenges, quests, hero parts farming, growing gems on plants (that's weird) and a lot of other things.

It looks like a well-polished game with a well-established community. The reviews on the Google Play Store are really positive and I can see why. It is really fun to play with a lot of content. For a mobile game, it is well done.

Thanks for reading!
