[Lets Play] Welcome to the Griftlands! - Meet Sal!

Griftlands describes itself as 'a deck-building roguelite where you negotiate, fight, steal or otherwise persuade others to get your way ... Every decision is important, be it the jobs you take, the friends you make, or the cards you collect!". It's one of my favorite games because I love how it's nontraditional approach to storytelling and that it's made a game where talking out your problems is a real options.

I've been experimenting with all manner of Let's Play settings and thought Griftlands made a natural next inclusions so, without further adu, let's jump right in!

Today we'll be playing as Sal.

For Perks we'll be starting this game with the following loadout. I appreciate this loadout because being able to interact with the overall XP of any of your cards is highly effective so I thought why not go all in on that! Also, double pets! Because I really want a goddamn dog.

Finally, we'll be playing on Prestige Level 1. This will make damn near everything slightly harder! Cool! It would be a shame to play a Rogue-Lite and survive!

Sal returned to town looking for revenge and with only one name on her mind: Kashio. Thankfully Fssh was able to get a drink into her hand before she got into any real trouble. Old friends were good like that.

When pressed for some work Fssh shrugged and passed her off.

"I've got a few people in my pocker," Fssh whispered sliding another drink across the bar. "Gree, Hiqu, and Alo. They're easy people to find. Tell 'em I said I'd settle their tabs if they can get you some work."

I guess a free lunch does still exist! After a steaming bowl of eyes Sal hugged the bartender, avoiding her creepy robotic eye, and hit the road.

The roads of the Griftlands are slimly, twisting, and dangerous. You never know why you are going to meet just around the next corner, or what that might stab you with. Looking over the notes she had taken at the bar one job stood out. Gree was looking for help clearing the beasties from a desolate beach and well, Sal always had a soft sport for animals. For pets if possible but hunting can also be a relaxing way to spend an afternoon!

Sal found Gree holed up in a bunkhouse just 6 clicks to the northeast.

"Us Jakes use that beautiful beach to make stuff that ain't none of your concern. The beasts are making that difficult."

"Say no more. Let's get going."

In the hover-skiff to the beach Sal was able to practice some knife skills and grab a new ability.

The Griftlands are a strange place. You can not see a living soul for clicks at a time but then all of a sudden when you stop to take a piss out from behind a rock steps someone looking to get you in trouble.

The stranger had a knife, a really nice knife and was onle asking for a few Shills.

"What's the deal?" Sal asked.

"Knife only, does not come with answers." the stranger responded.

Sal always liked knives and, this one was no different, now she had 4 knives and boy, it just felt great.

The beach is easy to find. Mostly because of the smell.

"Ummmm, hello? Monsters? Wanna come out and get stabbed?"

image.png

Sure enough, one did! Sal and the Giant Flea lept at each outher and, in a fury of action, it was over. Sal stood over the flea and she had a crazy look in her eye. It was all coming back to her now.

She remembered how to use a Cross to set up major combos!

Back at Gree's bunkhouse the money changed hands without anyone needing to be knifed. Not a bad days work!

Exiting the hovel Sals commune-capsule chimed. A new series of jobs but only one stood out, the one with the skull and crossbones next to it.

It turns out our old friend Prekt had ordered a package from Trusty's Outfitting but has found themselves unable to pick up the item. They were hiring for deliver, paying for speed, and paying extra with instructions to "expect complications". Neat!

image.png

Back on the road saw a familiar face, were they friendly? Unlikely.

image.png

Ximmon was jabbering away when Sal simpl said, "No."

She liked the knife she explained and, counting that one she was up to four knives! That led to an argument and, once and for all, it was time to find out who really had the most knives here Ximmon or Sal.

image.png

And honestly, the answer is ... Ximmon or atleast Ximmons pet Yote! Sal lies dead in a gutter and even worse that dirty dog Ximmon picked all 4 of the knives off her fresh corpse!

I guess that's why they call it Murder bay! I had a lot of fun doing this and I absolutely need to do Griftlands justice and not get blown out of the water at the end of Day 1! Look for more content like this coming soon!
