Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes was released in 2004 on the Nintendo GameCube console by Konami and was a remake of the original metal gear solid 1.
My Laptop specs are:

  • Lenovo ThinkPad Intel 4th generation i5 T450
  • Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5–5300U CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.29 GHz
  • Installed RAM 12.0 GB (11.9 GB usable)
  • System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Windows 10 64 bit

Below are the step-by-step instructions on how to run Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on the Dolphin emulator on a low-end laptop:

  • Go to Power options by right click Windows start button and then selecting The ultimate performance option.
  • Make sure to use task manager to kill all unnecessary tasks like Chrome browser or any other browsers or any other idle app running in the background.
  • Download the dolphin emulator via https://dolphin-emu.org/download/ but choose the stable 5.0 version which is 64-bit and was released 7 years ago.
  • After opening the emulator just double click on the page where it says search for directory and then find the path where the metal gear solid the twin snakes iso game1 and game2 disk are placed so the emulator loads it.
  • Under the config tab choose speed limit as Unlimited and under advanced setting choose JIT recompiler.
Make sure under interface confirm to stop, use panic handlers, and on-screen display messages are tick marked.
  • Under Audio sound settings choose DSP LLE recompiler and under back end settings Audio backend choose OpenAL with latency set to 2.
  • Under the Gamecube tab choose system language as English and under device settings put slot A as memory card after these settings done press ok.
  • On the emulator main page under graphics, General choose the backend as OpenGL, Full-screen resolution at 1280x720 depending on your laptop's screen size, and aspect ratio as Force 16:9 Make sure all other boxes are unchecked.
  • Under enhancements internal resolution is native, anti-aliasing none, anisotropic filtering is 1x, post-processing effect is off and all other settings are not as tick marked and steroscopic 3d mode is off.
  • Under Hacks EFB tick mark only ignore format changes and store efb copies to texture only, Texture cache accuracy as Fast 100%. Under External frame buffer (XFB) tick mark disable and also tick mark under other Fast depth calculation and disable bounding box as well.
  • Under advanced make sure to uncheck all boxes.
  • Now simply run the game and check if you hear the sound properly and whether it is crackling or not. If all is fine let everything be if not visit this wiki resource as this also has the hd textures pack as well which we will not be using as we have low specs laptop. You can also check out the official forums of the dolphin emulator.
