The Sims 3 ~ Let's Play ~ a legacy challenge!

Hello and welcome to a brand new Sims 3 Legacy Challenge playthrough!

If you've been following along in the past, then you know that I've tried this a few times:

  • The first time was in the Sims 4 where I very quickly discovered that the Sims 3 was far superior for this type of thing.
  • The second time I got to Generation 4 only for my savefile to corrupt itself...
  • And the last time I just wasn't really in the mood for the Sims and ended it after one post. These things happen. 🤷‍♀

Now I am here to try again!

Play a single family through the generations up to at least Generation 10!

⭐️ The First Generation Character shall hereby purchase the largest block of land and begin life with a teeny tiny sum of money... resulting in ownership of a small shack and scarcely a belonging.

⭐️ Each child shall be born and grow up with completely randomised traits. There will be no adoptions. Sorry, orphans.

⭐️ The Firstborn of each generation shall be the Chosen One that will continue on the family tree.

⭐️ Once the Chosen One transforms into a Young Adult all old family members shall be evicted, allowing the Chosen One to begin their new reign in the family home.

⭐️ There will be no command prompts used except the occasional reset Sim *, neither will death flowers be allowed to thwart death nor ambrosia eaten to achieve immortality. No major Life Reward Traits will be allowed either, only the minor ones.

And that's really about it. I think.

Onward! ✨

This is Melody Hivebee, our First Generation Character for this challenge. She is the only member of the future Legacy Family who will not be randomised.

An artistic bookworm with dreams of becoming the next big author in Simsville, Melody is ready to begin her "exciting" new life.

As ordained, she purchased the largest block of land available and built a shack with the remainder of her money. Most importantly she has a bed to sleep on, a bookshelf to learn from, and a radio to ease the boredom of coming days.

All other needs can be addressed if and when they arise.

Settling down to read what's what in her new town, Melody skimmed through the local newspaper and was disgusted at what she found. Eating contests, cheap classes on How to Swim, and jobs... lots of jobs.

So many jobs weren't exactly a bad thing... but although there were positions available for doctors, athletes and even criminals, neither the library nor the bookstore were hiring. If she was going to survive long enough to become an actual author, she'd need some paying work. She'd have to take matters into her own hands.

She barged downtown and marched towards the local bookstore. Of course, no-one was manning the counter so she yelled really loud until the manager appeared.

"I'm not a Karen," she hurriedly began, before the manager could shoo her out of the store. "Let me work here. I can man your empty counter!"

"Fine," sighed the manager. "Start tomorrow afternoon. Now get out. Go scream elsewhere."

With that sorted, Melody waltzed to the park, grin on face, and danced in the sprinklers for a bit before a rumble vibrated her tummy.

Scanning her surroundings, she noticed a loved-up couple enjoying a picnic together. Guided by her stomach, Melody approached the couple and sat on the blanket, and without a word grabbed one of their plates and started eating.

They didn't seem to notice so she grabbed another one and wolfed it down before anyone else could steal it.

Still hungry, and feeling a bit stinky besides, Melody headed to the gym to use their free bathrooms and kitchen.

Sitting at the bar, spooning cereal into her maw, she pondered on recent events.

It was easier than she had first thought to live as she was. Maybe she didn't need that bookshop job after all... she paused. No, no. She'd be good and work for an honest wage. The royalties from her future bestsellers were a while away and there was a house that needed expanding! She would not be lazy.

"Speaking of royalties," she murmured to herself. "I'd better write some books!"

So she rushed to the library and started typing.

She typed and typed so much that she lost track of the time. It was now tomorrow -- and her first shift at the bookstore was about to start!

Racing to the toilets in the nearby park, she brushed her teeth ten times.

"There," she murmured, grinning at herself in the mirror. "No-one will ever know I haven't showered for a day!"

As she ran to work, she stopped to pick several flowers along her way. She'd overheard someone talking about how they'd made a fortune at the local alchemy shop selling flowers and things... there was no way of knowing if that was true or not, but every little cent counted so she'd pick them and see for herself.

Her first shift finally came to an end. She had survived the day with no sleep and no-one had noticed that she hadn't showered in over a day. Perfect.

Opening the door, the manager called out.

"Melody. Stop."

Melody froze, then slowly turned around.

"You did wonderfully today," the manager beamed. "Have a raise!"

"Gee, thanks mister!" Melody grinned, then danced out the store. There was a crowd out there who had overheard the grand detail of her raise and cheered for it, for her!!

"Thanks!" she waved at them all and went home. It was renovating time.

"Thank the flowers," she whispered to herself, exiting her new kitchen and admiring her new bathroom. She'd do well to remember to pick them whenever she saw them; that overheard conversation had been the greatest of boons!

All that was missing was a shower. She stepped over to the mirror and grinned a toothy smile. With the power of her toothbrush, a shower wasn't a high priority just yet, was it?

😁😁😁

Until next time,

Thanks for stopping by!
