The Return of Hela: My Journey to Infinite Rank in Marvel Snap

Hello Marvel Snap friends, today I finally managed to reach Infinite rank for the third time in the game. I haven't played much, but it's clear that there is a Meta that is too strong, and it was very easy to achieve the goal.

Hela is back stronger than ever

You just have to take a look at the stats to see how strong the discard deck with Hela is.

I have to admit that Hela is one of my favorite cards, but after they reduced her ability by giving -2 power to each resurrected card, I replaced that deck with the discard deck featuring Apocalypse, Dracula, and Modok. Although I must admit, I still haven't fully mastered that deck, and there’s a high luck factor that makes you lose a lot of matches.

But with the update to Hell Cow granting it the "On Reveal" ability, we've seen how the Hela deck has evolved once again, becoming the Meta in just a few days.

Analyzing the deck

  • Blade: A perfect 1-cost card, allowing us to control which card to discard.
  • Luke Cage: With this card, we prevent resurrected cards from losing power due to Hela.
  • Lady Sif: To discard the highest-cost card. Our goal is to discard Death or any other 6-cost card when we don't have Hela in hand.
  • Jubilee: We use her to speed up the appearance of cards, looking for Hell Cow, Luke Cage, or Hela in the last turn.
  • Hell Cow: Now that she has "On Reveal," she's the perfect card for discard decks. We can wait until the last turn to activate her ability, discarding two cards from our hand. Warning: It’s important to activate her ability before playing Hela.
  • BlackCat: We only want her to discard herself automatically, although we can play her if we have nothing else to play in one of our turns.
  • Blink: Perfect for swapping the last card played with a higher-cost one from our deck. The ideal targets are Jubilee, Lady Sif, or Blade.
  • Hela: Our star card, to play on the last turn and resurrect the discarded cards.
  • Magneto: A 6-cost, 12-power card that also moves 3- and 4-cost cards to his location. It’s perfect for disrupting our opponent.
  • Giganto: A 6-cost, 14-power card. It can only be played on the left location, but thanks to Hela, we can resurrect it anywhere.
  • The Infinaut: A 6-cost, 20-power card. This card can only be played if you didn’t play any card the previous turn. Our goal is to discard it and resurrect it on the last turn.
  • Death: An 8-cost, 12-power card, perfect in combination with Lady Sif since we'll discard it without risking Hela.

How to play this deck

The Hela discard deck is a slow one, so don't panic if you don't get low-cost cards at the start, as we only have a few of them. Stay calm and wait, as you don't need to play many cards.

The ideal situation is to have discarded a card with Blade or Lady Sif and then wait to play Hell Cow on the last turn, activating her ability and then playing Hela. We will resurrect such a powerful number of cards that the opponent won’t stand a chance.

If we play Luke Cage beforehand, we’ll have the advantage of not losing -2 power on each resurrected card, although it’s still possible to win many matches without using him.

Using Jubilee or Blink helps us get Hell Cow or Hela faster, but be careful if we summon her before discarding cards, as it won't be helpful.

How I got to Infinite rank with this deck

Here’s a video of how I reached Infinite rank with this deck. My advice is:

  • Don’t rush, this deck is slow and requires patience. Sometimes things won’t go your way.
  • Be careful with locations, study each one before playing cards and think about what could happen in the next turns.
  • Retreating isn't cowardly; when victory isn’t clear, it’s better to retreat and not lose extra cubes. If you're careful, you'll gradually increase your cube count.

Conclusion

The return of Hela to the Meta is an exciting development for discard deck enthusiasts. Despite the slow nature of this deck, it has the potential to outlast and overpower many opponents when played with precision. Patience is key, and carefully planning each move will lead to some truly spectacular victories. Don’t be discouraged by bad luck in some matches; with enough practice, this deck can take you to Infinite rank.
