What is going on everyone? Deep Silver released a trailer yesterday, showing us what games to expect in their august showcase. And this got me thinking about one of my favorite games, Saints Row. For those that don’t know THQ is rebooting the Saints Row series, and well, I’m going to give you my opinion on the matter.

Looking at the gameplay and the trailer, one thought immediately jumps into my head: this is going to be another Watch Dogs 2 situation. Watch Dogs 2 took this group of “badasses” also known as DedSec, and turned them into these uninteresting hipster characters, and I fear that this is the route the new SR is going to take.
You can tell from the way these “saints” dress that this is going to be exactly the case, especially with their cheesy lines that can be heard in the trailer. I’ll leave a link to the trailer down below.
The Saints Row games always had a hint of silliness to them, more so with the later two installments, but this game looks like it is going to be shit. I can’t speak on how “Woke” it is going to be or even if it will be “woke” as there hasn’t really been enough information given out yet to make those assumptions.
When I heard of the reboot, I was excited. I was hoping that THQ was going to go back to their roots and give us a story like SR2. If you ask me, SR2 is the best game in the franchise, with 4 being the worst. Even though SR2 did have its silly moments, such as a character named Mr.Sunshine refusing to die, it still was able to handle the more serious ones, well.
Two missions always pop into my head when I think back to SR2, and both of them involved Gat. One was called Bleeding Out, that had Gat’s long-time girlfriend, Aisha, being killed after she tried to warn Gat and the Boss about a trap that was laid to kill the two of them. And the second was called Rest in Peace. Rest in Peace takes place at Aisha’s funeral and while trying to grieve, Shogo, the Ronin’s leader’s son, shows up. Johnny gives him a chance to leave, and he refuses, which ends up with Gat and The Boss burying him alive.
The reason these moments are memorable to me is because of the seriousness of them and how they were written. I think the only time Gat had ever offered mercy to anyone was in Rest in Peace, and I just don’t think that the new SR will be able to deliver on the more serious aspect of the old Saint’s Row franchise. If anything, it’s going to be more like SR3, except only a quarter as good, if that.
But this game, this game looks like it’s going to be goofy as hell. And when I say that I don’t mean in a good way. I mean in Agents of Mayhem way. The enemies look to be even bigger bullet sponges than they were before, and to me the game honestly does look like Watch Dogs 2.
In the footage, we are given a bit of information about these new “Saints”. The new Saints gang consists of people who left the other gangs in the game. And I mean, okay? Like it’s not an awesome origin story for a gang, but it is what it is.
When this game was first announced to be in development, a “leak” came out saying that it would be about a new generation of Saints trying to take out the old ones as they had become corrupt, and I was all excited for this idea. It seemed like it would be a perfect way to reboot the franchise, and as a long-time fan of the game, I was looking forward to having those mixed feelings about killing the characters I grew up with.
As a long-time fan of the series, I am pissed off at the route they are taking with this game, more pissed off than I was with SR4, but hey, at least they brought Gat back in it. The old Saints were gangster, hell even when they become millionaires, they were still gangster, and now… Well just look at them, they look like they should be waiting in line at a Starbucks to buy overpriced coffee.
The disappointment I felt watching the trailer and the gameplay can’t be described in words. Unless what we are being shown, is a cruel joke, this game is going to flop hard, maybe even harder than Agents of Mayhem, and if you don’t believe me, just look at the likes/dislikes of the trailer over on the Saints Row YouTube page.
I honestly do not know what THQ was thinking with making this. Did they not see all the hate WD2 got for doing this exact same thing? I mean, come on! They could have made this game great! The only thing that looks good about the game are the graphics and that’s it. Unless they pull some amazing footage out of their ass to show at their showcase in August, that pretty much just says “Hey guys, it was all a joke. Here’s the actual trailer” fans are going to be pissed.
But hey, that’s just my opinion.
¿Qué está pasando a todos? Deep Silver lanzó un tráiler ayer, mostrándonos qué juegos esperar en su escaparate de agosto. Y esto me hizo pensar en uno de mis juegos favoritos, Saints Row. Para aquellos que no saben, THQ está reiniciando la serie Saints Row, y bueno, les voy a dar mi opinión al respecto.
En octubre pasado, se lanzó una parte del juego del nuevo SR, pero antes de comenzar, si pudieras darle me gusta y suscribirte, ¡te lo agradecería!

Mirando la jugabilidad y el tráiler, un pensamiento salta inmediatamente a mi cabeza: esta será otra situación de Watch Dogs 2. Watch Dogs 2 tomó este grupo de "rudos", también conocidos como DedSec, y los convirtió en estos personajes hipster poco interesantes, y me temo que esta es la ruta que tomará el nuevo SR.
Por la forma en que se visten estos "santos", se puede decir que este será exactamente el caso, especialmente con sus líneas cursis que se pueden escuchar en el tráiler. Dejaré un enlace al tráiler a continuación.
Los juegos de Saints Row siempre tuvieron un toque de tontería, más aún con las últimas dos entregas, pero parece que este juego va a ser una mierda. No puedo hablar sobre cómo "despertará" o incluso si se "despertará", ya que todavía no se ha proporcionado suficiente información para hacer esas suposiciones.
Cuando me enteré del reinicio, me emocioné. Esperaba que THQ volviera a sus raíces y nos diera una historia como SR2. Si me preguntas, SR2 es el mejor juego de la franquicia, siendo 4 el peor. A pesar de que SR2 tuvo sus momentos tontos, como un personaje llamado Mr.Sunshine que se niega a morir, todavía fue capaz de manejar bien los más serios.
Siempre me vienen a la cabeza dos misiones cuando pienso en SR2, y ambas involucraban a Gat. Uno se llamaba Bleeding Out, en el que la novia de mucho tiempo de Gat, Aisha, fue asesinada después de que trató de advertir a Gat y al Jefe sobre una trampa que se tendió para matarlos a los dos. Y el segundo se llamaba Descanse en Paz. Rest in Peace se lleva a cabo en el funeral de Aisha y, mientras intenta llorar, aparece Shogo, el hijo del líder de Ronin. Johnny le da la oportunidad de irse y él se niega, lo que termina con Gat y The Boss enterrandolo vivo.
La razón por la que estos momentos son memorables para mí es por su seriedad y por cómo fueron escritos. Creo que la única vez que Gat ofreció misericordia a alguien fue en Descanse en paz, y no creo que el nuevo SR pueda cumplir con el aspecto más serio de la antigua franquicia de Saint's Row. En todo caso, será más como SR3, excepto que solo una cuarta parte de bueno, si eso.
Pero este juego, este juego parece que va a ser tonto como el infierno. Y cuando digo eso no me refiero en el buen sentido. Me refiero al estilo Agents of Mayhem. Los enemigos parecen ser esponjas de balas aún más grandes que antes, y para mí, honestamente, el juego se parece a Watch Dogs 2.
En las imágenes, se nos brinda un poco de información sobre estos nuevos "Santos". La nueva pandilla de Santos está formada por personas que dejaron a las otras pandillas en el juego. Y quiero decir, ¿de acuerdo? Como si no fuera una increíble historia de origen para una pandilla, pero es lo que es.
Cuando se anunció por primera vez que este juego estaba en desarrollo, salió una "filtración" que decía que se trataría de una nueva generación de santos que trataría de eliminar a los antiguos, ya que se habían vuelto corruptos, y estaba muy emocionado por esta idea. Parecía que sería una manera perfecta de reiniciar la franquicia y, como fanático del juego desde hace mucho tiempo, esperaba tener esos sentimientos encontrados acerca de matar a los personajes con los que crecí.
Como fanático de la serie desde hace mucho tiempo, estoy enojado con la ruta que están tomando con este juego, más enojado que con SR4, pero bueno, al menos trajeron a Gat de vuelta. Los viejos santos eran gánsteres, diablos, incluso cuando se hicieron millonarios, seguían siendo gánsteres, y ahora... Bueno, míralos, parece que deberían estar esperando en la fila de un Starbucks para comprar un café caro.
La decepción que sentí al ver el tráiler y la jugabilidad no se puede describir con palabras. A menos que lo que se nos muestre sea una broma cruel, este juego va a fracasar con fuerza, tal vez incluso más que Agents of Mayhem, y si no me crees, solo mira los gustos y disgustos del tráiler en el Página de YouTube de Saints Row.
Sinceramente, no sé qué estaba pensando THQ al hacer esto. ¿No vieron todo el odio que WD2 recibió por hacer exactamente lo mismo? ¡Ya pues! ¡Podrían haber hecho este juego genial! Lo único que se ve bien del juego son los gráficos y eso es todo. A menos que saquen algunas imágenes increíbles de su trasero para mostrarlas en su presentación en agosto, eso simplemente dice: “Hola chicos, todo fue una broma. Aquí está el tráiler real”, los fanáticos se van a enojar.
Pero bueno, esa es solo mi opinión.
