Cada cierto tiempo aparece la oportunidad de jugar uno de esos juegos que solo has visto una vez en tu vida en algun top de juegos bizarros que esta industria ha gestado, y creo que Pepsi Man tiene que estar entre esos juegos que en ningun momento piensas "como desearia jugar este juego", la historia de su desarrollo es bastante curiosa y muchas partes de ella son un misterio pero podriamos decir que fue concebida como una gran valla publicitaria para la venta de refrescos como parte de la lucha que tuvieron Coca-Cola y Pepsi en los 90s, este juego es producto de esa batalla.
Asi que como parte de mi serie de probando algunas de las consolas que no tuve me decidi descargar el archivo de poco mas de 11 MB de este juego para ejecutarlo con el emulador de PS1, curiosamente al ser un titulo que fue lanzado exclusivamente en Japon la mayoria del conocimiento sobre este juego aqui en Occidente se debe en gran parte a la pirateria, hubieron varios intentos por parte de publicadores americanos para doblar y lanzar el juego por estos territorios pero sigue, desde su lanzamiento, siendo un exclusivo en Japon.
Una pregunta comun podria ser de que trata un juego en donde controlas a un Pepsiman, y yo te responderia que de no jugarlo jamas hubiese sabido de que va todo esto, resulta que es un juego en donde corremos por un escenario o pista esquivando y saltando todo tipo de obstaculos hasta llegar a una maquina de Pepsi, en el medio de todo se supone que hay una historia pero al nunca ser doblado al ingles este juego simplemente se me escapa que es lo que esta pasando, solo se que soy Pepsiman llevando latas de refresco a todo el mundo mientras evito que me atropellen los autos.
En el apartado jugable me he llevado una grata sorpresa con el juego, mas que nada porque lo he disfrutado bastante, las carreras por la ciudad pueden ser complicadas con obstaculos variados que deberemos saltar o esquivar (y a veces ambos) al no tener nosotros control sobre la camara muchas veces suele jugarnos una mala pasada y darnos un punto ciego en donde tendremos que estar muy atentos de que no venga algun obstaculo, ya que si bien no podremos morir (tendremos un contador), el objetivo del juego es el de llegar lo mas rapido posible hasta la maquina de refrescos ademas de agarrar todas las latas que podamos.
Tambien algunos puntos extra por la accesibilidad que tiene este juego, parece simple pero hacer un titulo que se maneje de forma tan sencilla y fluida es muy complicado sobre todo para la epoca en donde aun estaba por verse si el 3D se volvia el nuevo standard de la industria, los modelados estan bien logrados y aunque cada nivel es solo una variacion de colores del primero creo que cada uno tiene algunos obstaculos unicos que podremos sortear y que agregan un poco mas de dificultad al asunto.
Este juego estoy seguro que en Japon llego a tener su propio arcade porque ahi creo que brilla mucho mas el concepto que tiene, es un runner de esos que funcionan mas como anecdota pero tiene sus puntos fuertes como experiencia jugable, ademas de que el personaje de Pepsiman es hilarante solo desde su concepcion. yo le daria un 6-10 aunque si me divertio bastante.

A common question might be what is a game about where you control a Pepsiman, and I would answer that if I didn't play it I would never have known what it's all about, it's a game where you run around a stage or track dodging and jumping over all kinds of obstacles until you reach a Pepsi machine, In the middle of it all there is supposed to be a story but since it has never been dubbed into English this game simply escapes me what is going on, I just know that I am Pepsiman carrying cans of soda to everyone while avoiding getting run over by cars.
In the gameplay section I have been pleasantly surprised with the game, mostly because I enjoyed it a lot, racing through the city can be complicated with various obstacles that we jump or dodge (and sometimes both) to not having us control over the camera often often plays a trick and give us a blind spot where we have to be very careful not to come some obstacle, Although we can not die (we will have a counter), the goal of the game is to get as fast as possible to the soda machine in addition to grab all the cans we can.
Also some extra points for the accessibility that has this game, it seems simple but make a title that is handled so simply and smoothly is very complicated especially for the time when it was yet to be seen if the 3D became the new industry standard, the modeling is well done and although each level is only a variation of colors of the first I think each has some unique obstacles that we can overcome and that add a little more difficulty to the matter.
This game I'm sure that in Japan it had its own arcade because there I think the concept shines much more, is a runner of those that work more as anecdote but has its strengths as a playable experience, plus the character of Pepsiman is hilarious just from its conception. I would give it a 6-10 although I had a lot of fun.
