AOM Starting for Nostalgia, Staying for the Story

Hello everyone, how are you? Today I will share with you a very old and different game, Age of Mythology Extended Edition. This game is a very old game. I used to play it in my high school years. But I downloaded it to my computer and I wanted to open it again for nostalgia. First of all, the game is not at all like I remember. Don't let the bad graphics fool you because the story is going really well so far.

This is Actually a Strategy Game to Play With Friends, But the Campaign Story Is AMAZING!

When I was in high school and university, we used to play this game for strategy purposes. We would go to the internet cafe with our friends and play 1v1 2v2 matches. In these, I usually chose one of the Egyptian gods. Because when you choose Egypt, the houses you need to build for population control are free.

You can build them for free and you can raise armies very fast. Anyway, I actually played the story of this game very briefly. Years later I wanted to press play again and play the campaign this time, because I don't have enough internet to play a stable game over an online connection right now.

When I started the game, I didn't think the story would be this good. You learn the stories and names of Greek heroes and you travel around the world. You get tasks from saving small towns to commanding huge armies in an instant. So much so that they even put the Trojan horse ahahaha. I don't tell too much to avoid spoilers, but it is really enjoyable. Trust me and play, I strongly recommend that you give at least 1-2 hours of time.

Resource Management

One of the most important things in this game is resource management. Whether you're playing against someone else, playing against the computer, or playing a campaign like I'm doing now, you need to make good use of your resources.

Each god has different classes of workers to gather resources. You need to invest in these workers at the beginning and I recommend you to hire a lot of workers. Remember that with 1 worker, a destroyed country can be rebuilt. That's why I recommend you to produce workers with all your resources at the beginning of the game.

Then you will collect wood, gold and food. These are standard resources. You collect wood by, you guessed it, cutting down trees in the neighborhood. Gold you get from small gold mines. Or later in the game, when you get to the fourth age, you can earn it by trading from the market. It is also possible to earn gold by sending animals such as donkeys and camels on a journey. Another resource is food. There are many options for food... Sheep, pigs, other animals in nature... You can even get food by building a harbor and raiding fishermen from there. In addition to that, there are some berry trees in nature. You can also collect them. As if that wasn't enough, when you finish each option, you can build your own farm.

Soldiers are born one by one

You can think of an average soldier as 50 gold and 50 food. Of course I'm not talking about "Mythic" troops, we'll get to them in a moment. I'm talking about standard troops now. This is a soldier that you only get 1 soldier. Yes, this is a little different from other strategy games because for example in BFME it gives you a complete army. So for example, when you press goblins, you get 20 goblins. There is no such thing here, you only get 1 soldier.
This makes your soldiers more valuable.

For example, if you are going to print archers, if you need to spend 50 wood and 50 gold, that archer is very expensive for you at first. But as you start to gain resources in the game, you can quickly get 5-10 archers. By the way, the prices of each culture are different and the soldiers of each culture are different. On average, you can consider the strength of these troops to be the same. But in general, some are stronger than others.

Armory

You absolutely have to do it to advance in age. But armory also allows you to strengthen your soldiers' weapons and armor. I don't recommend spending a lot of money here at the very beginning of the game. It might be better to print multiple soldiers instead.

Mythic Units

Of course, there is one thing that distinguishes it from other "Age of ..." games. And that is mythic. Each culture has its own different mythic troops. These are mined from special temples. They also require lightning. Cultures gain this resource by praying according to themselves. I say lightning because the shape is lightning ahahah. For example, if you choose the Greek culture, they go to the temple and pray. If you choose Egyptian culture, you make statues and they give you sanctity over time. And you get ''Favor''.

Then you can print new mythic troops using this resource. In addition to the necessary gold and food, of course. These troops are usually strong against other standard troops. Each time you advance to a new era, you can choose a new troop type.

Each god you choose gives you a different troop. You can therefore play a culture more than once. You can choose different gods for each playthrough and you get different experiences when you choose them. That's why replaying the game is very good.

Last Opinions

This game is ideal for those who want to play strategy with friends and reminisce a little bit about the past. It's a very simple game, but it's a very beautiful game. I'm playing the campaign right now and when I started, I didn't expect to like it so much. The photos I took are from this campaign. I don't think there are too many spoilers because it's very early in the game. I also didn't show anything too detailed.
Even if you have an old computer, I think you can run this game and I hope you enjoy it too. Ignore the graphics, the story and the strategy is very nice. After a while the graphics don't bother you. It even makes you feel nostalgic.

Thank you very much to everyone who read it, take care. See you soon.
