If there's something that I've learned thanks to meeting the best friends I could ever have back in 8th grade, is that having buddies to play anything you can come up with you is one of the best things ever. While I grew up with two bigger brothers (which is where I got my taste for retro stuff from), at one point they got busier and busier to be able to play with me (and they weren't interested some things I always wanted to try out with someone else as well). However, not only I still could boot anything like Mario Party 3 and play with my cousins when they showed up, but after meeting those friends I mentioned, I finally had someone to play many more kind of games...and have someone to laugh with (or to laugh at 🤣) again with my favorite kind of pastime.
For one, having others that are interested on the same things as you feel super satisfying, but in this case, it can make games even more fun since some games either have focus in competitive multiplayer, or could be easier to play through with coop (in both cases you'll have a buddy to react to everything). For example, few of my IRL buddies do know how to play fighting games a lot, but trying games with them feels so good because its something I can't do a lot (sometimes finding online matches can be hard); I remember spending hours without sleeping one night just to keep playing King of Fighters XIII with a buddy that was staying that night...and it was totally worth it.
For coop games, what might feel like a chore can feel like a ride that you share with a buddy; several games I had been talking about recently (like Aliens vs Predator, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Contra, Battle City) were because I had played them with one or more buddies, so going through beat-em-ups, run-and-gun games and shmups was fun even if we were dying a lot, and for certain other games like Contra III, having a pal with you can be really useful to make it through. Oh, and there was that time I played Left 4 Dead 2 with @rishahp, @therealflaws and another buddy from HGC, THAT was a blast :)
Now for party games...I think it doesn't need much to be said, does it? From multiplayer-oriented racing games like Mario Kart, Micro Machines and Speedrunners, to those where taking down your buddies with exaggerated swagger is priority (Smash Bros, Halo, Call of Duty, Duck Game, Brawlhalla, Rocket League), and then there are those tailor-made for parties which can conjure chaos and laughter at all times, like BombSquad, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Clusterpuck 99, and of course, Mario Party.

So...what would I like to see next? Well, I think that it doesn't matter if in the future any of us gets to upgrade further or gets a new gaming console to explore more games (though that would be quite fun), or if we are stuck playing oldies but goodies, but more so that they are there to have a stupidly fun time. As long as my buddies there, having fun is always possible with things like unexpectedly hype moments (like a sudden comeback, two skilled players facing each other...or that the guy that doesn't know how to play much the game somehow ends up winning 🤣) and, of course, how much personality can be expressed both in-game and outside.

I remember being quite affected for a bit back when the COVID-19 pandemic came through, as before that, I was used to getting my friends at home for gaming time every weekend (sometimes even two or three days a week), but not only the joy that they brought me during my high school (and currently, college years) is something that I'll never forget, but also it is awesome to have more chances to gather again for more sessions of trash talking over any game, because it isn't just about the games being fun by themselves because its other players, but also because of how the games were what ended up making me able to create friendships with them and be myself (as well as enjoy the silly shenianigans from them).
With this said, my biggest wish is that I can still get to hang around with them, because they do really make games much more fun than usual. Getting to upgrade your PC always sounds good, but these posts from @darthnava and @mclarenf11 do sum up well that topic, and in my case I also need to consider both the games I can try with a limited budget for upgrading AND what games do I really want to try. There's stuff that I can definitely enjoy alone, including specific kinds of games, but sometimes you always need a buddy to lighten up your own mood (@richardalexis's post does cover the idea of struggling to keep your interest in games, something which I can relate to at times, but playing games with buddies is something that really helps with that).
With all of this said, I hope you had a great Merry Christmas (I know, I'm some days late 😅), and that if you have buddies to play stuff with, make sure to cherish them (and of course, go play something, will ya? 😎).

Si hay algo que he aprendido gracias a que conocà a los mejores amigos que podrÃa tener allá por el 8º curso, es que tener compañeros para jugar a cualquier cosa que se te ocurra es una de las mejores cosas. Aunque crecà con dos hermanos mayores (de ahà me vino el gusto por las cosas retro), llegó un momento en que cada vez estaban más ocupados para poder jugar conmigo (y no les interesaban algunas cosas que yo también querÃa probar siempre con otra persona). Sin embargo, no sólo podÃa seguir arrancando cualquier cosa como Mario Party 3 y jugar con mis primos cuando aparecÃan, sino que después de conocer a esos amigos que mencioné, por fin tenÃa a alguien con quien jugar a muchos más tipos de juegos... y tener a alguien con quien reÃrse (o de quien reÃrse 🤣) de nuevo con mi tipo de pasatiempo favorito.
Por un lado, tener a otros que se interesan por las mismas cosas que tú es súper satisfactorio, pero en este caso, puede hacer que los juegos sean aún más divertidos ya que algunos juegos tienen enfoque en el multijugador competitivo, o podrÃan ser más fáciles de jugar con coop (en ambos casos tendrás un compañero para reaccionar a todo). Por ejemplo, pocos de mis amigos IRL saben jugar mucho a los juegos de lucha, pero probar juegos con ellos sienta muy bien porque es algo que no puedo hacer muchas veces (a veces encontrar partidas online puede ser difÃcil); recuerdo pasar horas sin dormir una noche sólo para seguir jugando a King of Fighters XIII con un amigo que se quedaba esa noche... y mereció totalmente la pena.
En el caso de los juegos cooperativos, lo que podrÃa parecer una tarea puede parecer un paseo que compartes con un amigo; varios de los juegos de los que he hablado recientemente (como Aliens vs Predator, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Contra, Battle City) se debÃan a que los habÃa jugado con uno o más amigos, asà que pasar por los beat-em-ups, los juegos de correr y disparar y los shmups era divertido aunque muriéramos mucho, y en el caso de otros juegos como Contra III, tener un amigo contigo puede ser realmente útil para superarlo. Asà que... ¿qué me gustarÃa ver a continuación? Bueno, creo que no importa si en el futuro alguno de nosotros llega a actualizarse más o consigue una nueva videoconsola para explorar más juegos (aunque eso serÃa bastante divertido), o si nos quedamos jugando a oldies but goodies, sino más bien que estén allà para pasar un rato estúpidamente divertido. Mientras mis compañeros estén allÃ, divertirse siempre es posible con cosas como momentos inesperados de hype (como una remontada repentina, dos jugadores hábiles enfrentados... o que el tipo que no sabe jugar mucho el juego de alguna manera termina ganando 🤣) y, por supuesto, cuanta personalidad se puede expresar tanto en el juego como fuera de él.

Recuerdo que me afectó bastante cuando llegó la pandemia de COVID-19, ya que antes de eso, estaba acostumbrado a tener a mis amigos en casa para jugar todos los fines de semana (a veces incluso dos o tres dÃas a la semana), pero no sólo la alegrÃa que me dieron durante mis años de instituto (y actualmente, de universidad) es algo que nunca olvidaré, sino que también es impresionante tener más oportunidades de reunirme de nuevo para más sesiones de charla basura sobre cualquier juego, porque no se trata sólo de que los juegos sean divertidos por sà mismos debido a sus otros jugadores, sino también por cómo los juegos fueron lo que terminó haciéndome capaz de crear amistades con ellos y ser yo mismo (asà como disfrutar de las tontas travesuras de ellos).
Dicho esto, mi mayor deseo es que pueda seguir saliendo con ellos, porque realmente hacen que los juegos sean mucho más divertidos de lo habitual. Conseguir actualizar el PC siempre suena bien, pero estos posts de @darthnava y @mclarenf11 resumen bien ese tema, y en mi caso también tengo que considerar tanto los juegos que puedo probar con un presupuesto limitado para la actualización COMO los juegos que realmente quiero probar. Hay cosas que sin duda puedo disfrutar solo, incluso determinados tipos de juegos, pero a veces siempre se necesita un compañero para aligerar el propio estado de ánimo (el post de @richardalexis) cubre la idea de la lucha por mantener el interés en los juegos, algo con lo que me identifico a veces, pero jugar con compañeros es algo que ayuda mucho).
Con todo esto dicho, espero que hayáis pasado unas muy buenas Navidades (lo sé, voy con algunos dÃas de retraso 😅), y que si tenéis amigos con los que jugar, os aseguréis de apreciarlos (y por supuesto, id a jugar a algo, ¿vale? 😎).
