This happened after I had a race in El Capitan after the first time I tried racing with my Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, after installing a Turbo Kit 2 on it, making it go through several races for credits through B-Spec (which is basically letting an AI drive for you), and then finally wanting to drive it on my own. I hadn't raced in this track before.
Not too long after I got hooked to Gran Turismo 2, my curiosity started really getting to me to try out the other fabled crown jewel of the GT series that is the fourth entry, and after getting to play it at one of my friends's birthday party, I decided to try and get it running on my PC with the PAL version (so that it ran at 50fps; just to make sure the speed is more stable in my PC as I had heard emulating it wasn't an easy feat).
Going head first into the career mode, here called Gran Turismo Mode, I was met with three used car dealerships, several places with events and races, and 10,000 credits at hand to pick my first car. I ended up picking this Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-R because of the way it looked and thinking that it would drive just like a Celica GT-Four since I couldn't afford one.

I later realized that this was a mistake.

While the car could do reasonably well for the Sunday Cup, the catch is that this is a FF-drive car, which from what I felt driving it, is much more rigid to steer than something like a 4WD (which is characterized by being responsive but loose in steering), and I couldn't get it to do much in the FF challenge races or the few other races I could enter with this car, even with repeated B-Spec races.
I ended up entering several races with the B-Spec mode and sometimes just repeating the same race that the AI often performed the best with (you know, to get the first place prize money several times) many, MANY times. And I did that until getting to buy a brand new car: The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI RS: Tommi Makinen Edition. The one you saw...on a bit of a breezy drive at the beginning.
And it being a "Tommi Makinen" edition happened to be pure luck in that this was at the used car dealership for just the right amount of money I had at hand (as the Celica GT-FOUR there was just some few credits out of my range).

Now that I have a better performing car, the only thing left for me to keep moving forward (other than getting money to get cars for specific events)...is to keep improving my driving and stop forgetting the proper technique, since sometimes I still slam the brakes too late and end up off-course which often costs me these races. But hey, it is possible to get some fun screenshots out of moments like those thanks to the game having a replay saving feature!
Like the following picture where I slammed the car at the left into the dirt as I went almost fullspeed into that turn; essentially using him as a wall to bounce off into the road while sending the other guy to their demise. 😂
Ahora que tengo un coche con mejores prestaciones, lo único que me queda para seguir avanzando (aparte de conseguir dinero para conseguir coches para eventos específicos)... es seguir mejorando mi conducción y dejar de olvidar la técnica adecuada, ya que a veces sigo frenando demasiado tarde y termino fuera de la trazada, lo que a menudo me cuesta estas carreras. Pero bueno, es posible hacer algunas capturas de pantalla divertidas de momentos como esos gracias a que el juego tiene una función para guardar repeticiones.
Como en la siguiente imagen, en la que estrellé el coche de la izquierda contra la tierra al entrar casi a toda velocidad en esa curva; básicamente, lo usé como muro para rebotar en la carretera mientras enviaba al otro a su perdición. 😂
And if you think it was all just racing, then you must not know a lick about Gran Turismo: The licensing tests are still there and they're still the same as ever: Not one crash into the wall or drive too much somewhere off the track or you're flunked.
Only in this game...well...anyone who's played this before knows exactly what I mean. But if not, there I leave the recommendation that you play it.

Y si creen que todo fue nada más que carreras, entonces debe ser que no conocen ni una pizca de Gran Turismo: Las pruebas de licencias siguen ahi y siguen igual de siempre: Ni un choque a la pared o pasar mucho por algun lugar fuera de la pista o estás reprobado.
Solo que en este juego...bueno...el que haya jugado esto antes sabe exactamente a lo que me refiero. Pero si no, ahí te dejo la recomendación de que lo juegues.

The last thing I could tell for today about this game is how last night I spent almost an hour trying to get the gold medal in the A-3 test, and after repeated attempts, both having several attempts with Silver but with very late milliseconds (or failing immediately when I went to the grass), at 4 o'clock in the morning, finally...

And that would be enough Gran Turismo 4 for today. Although it can be a real process to test and replay certain races just to improve your car or get a better one to advance, the vibes, the graphics, the music that brings both original and licensed bands, and learning to get the hang of driving in this game, everything becomes incredibly captivating for any fan of cars and racing.
And of course, I have to give a lot of credit to the PCSX2 emulator for the countless amount of improvements it has had over the years to make this experience possible!

Y con eso ya sería suficiente Gran Turismo 4 por hoy. A pesar de que puede llegar a ser un verdadero proceso hacer las pruebas y repetir ciertas carreras solo para mejorar tu carro o conseguir un mejor para poder avanzar, las vibras, los gráficos, la música que trae tanto original como de bandas licenciadas, y el poder aprender a agarrarle el truco a manejar en este juego, todo llega a ser increíblemente cautivante para cualquier aficionado de los carros y las carreras.
Y claro, mucho crédito le tengo que dar al emulador de PCSX2 por la innumerable cantidad de mejoras que ha tenido en estos últimos años para hacer esta experiencia posible!
