Three Tune Tuesday with Jimi Hendrix / Re-blog lottery!

generated with ideogram.ai

It's Three Tune Tuesday again, the week has gone by so fast! A couple days ago I shared a picture of one of Jimi Hendrix's guitars in my post and I decided it might be fun to do a post on his music for this Tuesday. Thanks to @ablaze for starting and sponsoring this weekly event!

Jimi Hendrix was one of the most influential rock n roll guitarists and song writers of all time. Coming from humble roots he managed to buy his first acoustic guitar at fifteen and learned to play by watching other guitarists, essentially self taught. He briefly served in the US Army after a judge gave him the choice of military service or prison after being caught twice riding around in stolen cars.

After his military service he pursued his career as a musician. Chas Chandler who played bass guitar for The Animals heard him play in NYC in 1966 and was impressed enough to bring him to London and signed him a record deal. After building a following in the UK and Europe he played at the Monterey Music Festival in California 1967 where he famously lit his guitar on fire at the end of the set. This created one of the most iconic pictures in rock n roll history, with Rolling Stone magazine placing the photo on the cover in 1987 twenty years later to commemorate the event.

By 1969 he was the highest paid rock musician in the world and headlined at the Woodstock music festival. Not long after he returned to London and started a European tour in 1970. He was struggling with alcohol and heroine abuse quite badly by this point. On Sept. 17th he overdosed on sleeping pills and was pronounced dead the next day in London. Although his mainstream music career was only four years long he remains one of the most influential figures in rock n roll to this day.

First up I thought I might share "All Along The Watchtower", although written by Bob Dylan, Hendrix's version is the one most people remember. And it's a great song!

Next up is another classic of his, "Foxy Lady", no one really knows who inspired the song but it's one of his best songs. Have a listen:

And how could I fail to include "Purple Haze", probably his best known hit...

His was another case of a rock n roll legend who died too young thanks to drug abuse. Far too many have suffered the same fate sadly. In those four short years he managed to leave a lasting impression that lasts until this day.

Well that is it for today. I hope you enjoyed my three picks. Have a great rest of your Tuesday (maybe Wednesday depending on where you live!) Thanks for stopping by!
