Here we are at Tuesday again. I'm not exactly sure where the last week or year have gone. Time just flies by anymore...
To start off first I want to thank @ablaze for starting and sponsoring this weekly event. It sure is a lot of fun! Let's dive in head first into this weeks selections!
A couple weeks ago on my Three Tune Tuesday I shared the song "Holy Diver" by Dio and it got me thinking I should do a nice Tribute to the late, great Ronnie Dio. He started his musical journey at the age of fifteen in a band that eventually became know as Elf. They frequently opened for Deep Purple, and in 1975 Ritchie Blackmore guitarist for Deep Purple left the band to found the band Rainbow with Dio on vocals. Throughout the mid seventies he gained a reputation as one of the best vocalist in hard rock. In 1979 he was hired to replace Ozzy Osbourne as lead singer in the band Black Sabbath. Ozzy of course was famously fired for excessive drug use. Many Sabbath fans weren't real happy with the change, but they produced some amazing music with Dio before parting ways in 1982. He then pursued a very successful solo career.
To this day he is considered one of the best vocalists in the hard rock/ heavy metal category. Sadly he passed away from stomach cancer in 2010. I recall hearing an Alice Cooper radio show where Cooper said that Dio was on the nicest people he had ever met. Many in the hard rock community remember him as one of the best who was taken from us far too early.
Since I shared "Holy Diver" a couple weeks back it won't be in this Three Tune Tuesday. Instead I thought we might start of with some Black Sabbath featuring Dio in the song "Heaven and Hell".
Next up for your listening pleasure I thought it might be fun to bring in a song from the band Rainbow. Although it's not the original band playing it's still a great live performance. This one is "Man On The Silver Mountain".
And last up comes from his solo career days from the same album as the song "Holy Diver". This is probably my second favorite song from the album, "Rainbow In The Dark".
The man had an amazing voice and a long career spanning fifty years. He passed away at age 67 which is relatively young these days. Cancer is a nasty disease that can take anyone at any time.
