I've always enjoyed taking trips in the great outdoors. Even if it was just a day trip to go out prospecting in the mountains or the desert. Prospecting for gold is a great hobby, and I've been sharing some the nuggets I have found over the years. I have yet to find a huge nugget, but any gold is better than none in my opinion.
Today's nugget doesn't come out of the Arizona desert like the others I've shared, this one was found in one of my favorite spots in the southern California mountains. I was panning for gold in a stream when I found this one, it was next to a large tree root along with a few other smaller nuggets. There was also some real fine gold mixed in as well. It was an exciting to some nice gold! The one here was about 2.5 grams but it has some of the quartz from the vein still embedded in it. These ones are these are my favorites to find, they're just plain cool!
If you've seen my posts on some other nuggets from Arizona that were worn smooth. This one is still pretty jagged having been washed free from a gold vein upstream somewhere not all that long ago. The longer they are in the water the more worn they become.
If you're interested in doing some prospecting yourself you should look for a local prospecting group. They are usually small groups most everywhere and internet searches have made finding them much easier. They can usually give you tips to get started and a lot of the time they'll let you tag along on one of their prospecting adventures! And with any luck you'll come back just a little bit richer, or maybe a lot!
Switching gears here, have you ever wanted to be a trillionaire? Sounds like a great new game show! You can be if you buy one of these 100 trillion dollar notes from Zimbabwe!
from eBay
This bill has no value except to collectors, they sell them on eBay for less than $100 US. You too can be own one hundred trillion Zimbabwe dollars and be a trillionaire at least in spirit! @trumpman shared his 200 million dollar note from there this morning, definitely a fun collectible.
This is what happens when inflation goes wild. In 2008 Zimbabwe was suffering from hyperinflation, so they currency was continually in a free fall of value. So the currency in their wallets could become worth nothing in a matter of weeks. This forced the government to print bills large enough that they would have any value at all. Otherwise you would have to stuff a wheel barrow full of cash to go and buy a loaf of bread. The bigger bill were much easier to carry around. The eventual solution was to start using foreign currencies like the US dollar and Euro and do away with their dollar altogether.
I sincerely hope that this doesn't ever happen to the US dollar or the Euro, but politicians are doing their best to devalue our currencies by printing money and stacking up huge national debts... A recipe for disaster.
This is how the gold nugget fits in, owning a stash of precious metals protect you from inflation and they will always have value. Of course crypto is another great option, and you wouldn't likely be here reading this if you felt otherwise. As convenient as paper money is, it only has value as long as the government can back its value. It's always wise to have some cash on hand in case of emergencies, but gold and silver are a wiser way to accumulate wealth.
For all you great outdoors lovers you can go find your gold just laying on the ground. That's my favorite way to do it! But for those who aren't big outdoors fans you can always buy them too. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, I do it myself too!
Thanks for stopping by to read my post today. I hope you enjoyed it and found found it interesting. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to comment below. Have a great weekend!
And my disclaimer:
