BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR EYES

BIBLE TEXT:

2 SAMUEL 11: 7 - 10

KEY VERSE:

Turn away mine eyes fron beholding vain thing (Psalms 119:37-38).

INTRODUCTION

The eye is the organ for seeing. Just above the nose are two bright shinning balls planted in two window-like sockets and guarded by two eye-lids. When the lids cover the balls light is shut off from object, and the person no longer sees until the eye-lids open again. The eye is a very important organ in the body. With it we see the beautiful creation.

God created the earth and put in it various beautiful creatures, we have birds of different colours, shapes and sites; different, coloured, beautiful flowers; different insects like the butterflies and moths; the skies, the rainbow, the blue sea; tall and short trees and various other creatures.

The eyes help us to see and admire these beautiful creatures of God.
The eyes also help us to read and write, to find our pathways, to locate our homes.

Let us thank God for giving us eyes that see. Let us also pray for our brothers and sisters who do not see. God made everyone to see.

The enemy had blinded their eyes, but God can open blind eyes.

HOW DO YOU USE YOUR EYES?

A person can use his eyes wisely. A person can also use his eyes wrongly.
Wrongly used eyes can lead to sin and death. Sin is anything that makes one disobey God's laws. God set several laws to help us live well and enjoy the good things God created for us. When we fail to observe these laws or regulations of God, we sin against God. Sin does not allow us to live happily and peacefully with one another.
The story of King David and Bathsheba will be our case study.

BIBLE TEXT:

And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the kill

But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house 2 Samuel 11:7-10? SOURCE

KING DAVID AND BATHSHEBA

Israelites were at war with the Ammon. King David sent his army to destroy the Ammonites. The army General, Joab was his name. King David did not go. One fateful evening he was on his own pavement in an upstairs. He saw a lady bathing outside. He began to look on her as a nude film. He called someone to watch the nude. It the was the second who told King David whom the woman was. He ordered her to see him in palace immediately.

The lady was alerted about the king's invitation. Therefore, the lady responded to me invitation of the king. The Bible has it that King David made love with her. The king slept with her, another man's wife slept with her own king. They enjoyed themselves in sin and in the darkness with hope that nobody sees them. Unfortunately, God in His infinite knowledge, as Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent showed the culprits the other side of the coin. The woman was to the King after weeks of the absence of her monthly period. She reported to the king of her new experience that she is pregnant.

The clever King, Smart culprit, the overall King tried to cover up the ugly news from spreading. The King sent for the woman's husband from the battlefield. When the man came, he went straight to the king. King David ordered him to go to his wife and enjoy her. The refused and stayed with the gatekeepers. When the way told how the man treated his order, he considered another option The King sent a letter to the Captain for the promotion of the man to a captain and sending him to the hardest side of the battle as to make sure he didn't come alive. He gave the letter to the victim as his own letter-bomb. The innocent man, not knowing what he carried delivered it to the captain. The contents of the letter were implemented. The innocent man was promoted, given his own troops, sent to the hardest side of the battle, and the battle claimed his life.

It was reported to King David what happened, he comforted his captain and invited the victim's wife with the news from the battlefield. After consoling her, he then took her officially as one of his wives.
