Men have historically been viewed as providers, the breadwinners who bear financial responsibility. They lose their sense of purpose when they retire or experience financial difficulties. Relatives might isolate themselves, unable to reconcile the man they knew with the one who requires their support. As you grow accustomed to being forgotten and literally irrelevant, silence and solitude become your constant companions. I've seen that living at this stage may be really challenging, and there is little to no preparation for males in this stage of their lives. It does not have to be this way however. Prepare financially and psychologically so that you can make your later years more bearable and less painful.
