We’ve noticed an increase in accounts within the community who largely or exclusively post bot commands or brief, repetitive comments. Can these comments be considered spam? By some, yes; by others, no. This was an expected development as we continue to grow, but since our goal is to encourage the proliferation of high quality content, we’re going to make an adjustment to how we reward these types of comments.
Adjustments to Comment Rewards
We’re still going to continue curating and rewarding comments which are repetitive or call out commands only. However, the rewards and curation are going to be very minimal – nearly to the extent of dust. I think this is a fair approach because such comments still provide interaction and value, albeit to a minimal degree compared to other types of comments.
I also recall the case made by @cryptounicorn420 that certain people with various disabilities may have exertional difficulties with writing out more than a few commands per day. Knowing the effort that she places into her own comments, I still think that the effort in a comment should be roughly proportionate to the reward, hence not eliminating rewards entirely even for these types of comments.
Ultimately, we’re going to limit the curation on such comments to 0.1% (in our case, this is definitively a dust vote). Furthermore, while we typically give out 1 HSBI per 10 comments posted within the community (rounded up), our approach to the aforementioned types of comments will be 1 HSBI per 100 comments (rounded down). Frankly, it would take A LOT of these types of comments to earn a noticeable amount of HSBI.
This will still keep in line with our original promise to curate every single comment made within the community (except if it’s blatant spam, illegal, or plagiarized). We’re not planning to change that aspect. We’re simply reweighing the impact of certain comments which some people may consider to be spam.
Of course, I am open to the opinions of all the members within this community, and as you can see, we’re always willing to make adjustments and changes.
For the rewards that will be put out tomorrow, you’ll see the aforementioned changes in effect.
