Frost in the garden.

Frost in the garden is another determining factor that we must address and act on at the right time. In my area, a typical Mediterranean climate, frosts are brief and last from December to February more or less. But there are other places where they can last much longer and already at this time it can start to freeze.

As any horticulturist knows, you always have to pay attention to the weather maps for all environmental factors. And frost is one of them. If it comes early, it can ruin the last fruits of the season. If it lasts for a long time, it can spoil our sowing forecast and ruin the crop, so you have to be very careful.

We also tend to think that frosts are always bad, but nothing could be further from the truth. Frosts play many roles. Fruit trees need cold to flower and bear fruit. The cabbage family needs cold to give better and tastier fruits. And above all, it helps us to eliminate pests from the rest of the year, since it eliminates many of the eggs, which helps us to have a much healthier garden.
In short, frost is part of the cycle and we must manage it to our advantage.
