AI Artwork and Copyright Law Have Issues

source

I just knew this day would come with all the AI image generators getting better each day. There's fear in the hearts of artists because AI can sometimes create art that could take them months or ever years to do better.

When people create art, music, songs or official videos of theirs the protect their work with legal copyright protection. Now the question we should be thing about is should AI-generated art receive copyright protection too?

A guy called Jason M. Allen's created an artwork named Théâtre d’Opéra Spatial and he used Midjourney for that artwork but unfortunately the U.S. copyright office rejected his application for selling the art.

They claimed there was.way too much AI content in the work. Should that be a reason for rejecting his work? You might quickly answer yes because he didn't create it himself but I have a counter opinion to that.

We already know that for Artists to create their art they will have to use tools like Paint brush, paint, the paper they'll draw on, what they'll get inspired by and even cameras they'll use.

These are all the tools they need, now wouldn't you consider Mid journey as the tool that Allen used to create his work instead of paint brush or camera.

This art was created by Allen and that means he owns the art and if artists cannot protect their work with AI, it might discourage them from exploring new technologies for creating better art.

I think the Copyright laws need to adapt to these changes and should see AI as a tool used for Artwork. Of course I will never encourage AI for writing articles because that's a very different thing I think. With writing articles, you are trying to express your thoughts and using AI kinda defeats the whole idea but with image and even video generation I think a little consideration can be given.

We should try to find a balance that protects artists' rights and also acknowledge the role of AI creativity and art. Perhaps if Allen's case goes in his favor, we might see laws change for AI content creators.
