Welcome in this post I share and experiment utilizing markets and a 3d printed rig to color 3d printed filament to manipulate the color.
I found the model for the rig online but I had to customize it a bit to fit my printer, it was just a test to see if it's worth while and as you can see in the picture bellow it's a fairly ghetto set-up using masking tape, but I can always make something more permanent.
I started out with a a regular whit filament but as you can see it didn't turn out great you can't really see any difference, for this one I used 3 different color sharpies however I think the tips on these markets are not ideal for this type of thing the tips are too fine.
Right below is the same market set up but a different material a white silk plastic it's got a glossy finish and had better results but still not great .
I came up with a system to keep track putting dots on the bottom so I know what color I used
With the one bellow I used 3 red markers and it came out a lot better.
Similar results with using 3 blue markers
So over all it worked but not great, I could look into getting other markers with better tips for this project and testing would be helpful too to figure out what color combination work best,
This concept could be take really far it would be fairly complicated but maybe with AI this could be automated and you can make color prints with just one roll of filament and with a single tool head.
