Happy Friday the 13th and Nineties Friday!

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!

What does this pink donut with a bite taken out of it have to do with the 1990's you may ask? My answer is: a lot. Although The Simpsons started in the late 1980's it reached it's peak in the 1990's in my opinion. They are still making new episodes today, but they are hard to compare to the 90's when Conan O'Brien was writing and producing the material.

The donut is Homer Simpson's favorite treat, especially pink with sprinkles. This is actually a coin produced by the country of Tuvalu in the South Pacific. What is interesting about this coin made in 2019 is that it wasn't horribly expensive to buy in 2019, around $80. Now this one ounce silver coin can go for nearly $3,000 perfect grades condition.

Just have a look at these from eBay, this is a screenshot from this morning! It's a great example of how investing in silver wisely can make you a very nice profit!

About the coin:

I know at least one of the Silver Gold Stacker community bought one of these back in 2019, I wish I would have! Only 3,000 were minted so it's a very hard to come by coin at a good price anymore.

This episode of The Simpsons was written by Conan O'Brien and is a parody of "The Music Man" starring Robert Preston from 1962. Although I'm not a musical fan this movie is worth seeing in my opinion. In this episode a travelling salesman convinces the town to use millions of dollars to create a monorail in Springfield. It's called Marge vs. The Monorail and is one of the funniest episodes they ever produced. Here's a clip of the highlights near the end. No musical, sorry, you can see that on YouTube!

Seinfeld

forbes.com

In the 1990's Seinfeld was probably the biggest and best show around. Some would argue it was Friends, but they really got their start following Seinfeld on Thursday nights. Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David created the show Seinfeld as a fictionalized version of Jerry Seinfeld's life. It was hilarious producing so many classics it's hard to count them all. However, the one that always makes me laugh is: "The Soup Nazi":

Now for some music from the long lost decade of the 1990's!

Soundgarden

awesome923.com

Soundgarden formed in 1984 in Seattle, Washington and were fronted by the late Chris Cornell. They were one of the earliest grunge bands signed to a record deal and helped popularize the grunge movement. Their first album wasn't a huge commercial success but there second "Louder Than Love" put them on the nation wide music scene in 1989. In 1991 with the release of "Badmotorfinger" they were selected to open Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion tour. In 1994 they release the album "Superunknown" which launched them into music history. It had some very dark songs on it including "Black Hole Sun" and this one "Feel On Black Days":

Foo Fighters

metal-hammer.de

I know I have shared some of their music in the past, because they are one of my favorite bands from the 90's. After Kurt Cobain's death and the end of Nirvana, Dave Grohl formed a new band with him as the lead vocalist. The Foo Fighters have been producing music ever since. This came off their second album "The Colour and the Shape" and is called "Monkey Wrench":

Green Day

fanpop.com

Formed in 1987 in Rodeo, California this punk band was became one of the top bands of the 1990's. They struggled to sell albums until their release of "Dookie" in 1994. It produced multiple hits making them one of the biggest bands around. This one came off that album, "Basketcase":

And since I spent most of the 1990's in countries that really only spoke Spanish I'll throw in a couple songs fro that same era that were popular in the day!

Noelia

primerahora.com

Noelia is a singer from San Juan, Puerto Rico who became mainstream in 1999 with here self titles debut. The song "Tu" (You) became very popular throughout Latin America. The song was written by Estéfano, who was the go to song writer of the 1990's. Kind of like Neil Diamond was in the in the late 1960's. Anyway, this is a very catchy song and the singer isn't too bad looking either!

Natalia Oreiro

fanpop.com

This is a song on the edge of the nineties released in 2000, but still with the Latin nineties sound. Natalia Oreiro is an actress and singer from Uruguay that became mainstream in the late 1990's. There aren't many big artists from the South American. As a matter of fact I would guess most people couldn't even find it on the map! This was off the album "Tu Veneno" (Your Poison) and is called "Rio De La Plata" (River of Silver):

That will wrap up this edition of #ninetiesfriday . It's a great event to participate in if you haven't yet. You can share anything from the decade, your imagination is the limit.
