Hello friends of The Science Scoop community, I would like to share a brief story to bring you closer to the concept of the beautiful science that is Geophysics, as well as its importance for the development of man and for the protection and conservation of the environment.
Hola amigos de la comunidad The Science Scoop, megustaría compartirles una breve historia para acercarlos al concepto de la bella ciencia que es la Geofísica, así como su importancia para el desarrollo del hombre y para la protección y conservación del medio ambiente.
Mateo, a Spanish Literature teacher wanted to go out and explore the world, he thought his friend Geo who was a Geography teacher would like to accompany him and invited her on his trip. The two enjoyed seeing new places and discovering mysteries.
Mateo, un profesor de Español Literatura quería salir y explorar el mundo, pensó que a su amiga Geo quien era profesora de Geografía le gustaría acompañarlo y la invitó a su viaje. Los dos disfrutaban conocer lugares nuevos y descubrir misterios.
On their way, they found a wonderful cave behind a waterfall and decided to go inside. In that, they heard a strange sound that came from the rocks that were around them. Curious, Mateo asked his friend Geo, "Why do you think rocks make that sound?" Geo replied: "I think it is the geophysical vibrations that are generated due to the continuous geological activity of the Earth." Mateo looked at Geo in amazement and asked him: "What is geophysics?" Then Geo explained, "Geophysics is a science derived from geology that is interested in the study and understanding of the physical system of the planet, emphasizing its geological considerations. It includes aspects such as the investigation of the internal composition of the planet, the heat flow from inside it, the force of gravity that forms the gravitational field, the magnetic force of attraction and the propagation of seismic waves through the rocks of the earth's crust."
En su camino, encontraron una maravillosa cueva detrás de una cascada y decidieron entrar. En eso, escucharon un sonido extraño que provenía de las rocas que había a su alrededor. Curioso, Mateo le preguntó a su amiga Geo: "¿Por qué crees que las rocas hacen ese sonido?" Geo le respondió: "Creo que se trata de las vibraciones geofísicas que se generan debido a la continua actividad geológica de la Tierra." Mateo miró asombrado a Geo y le preguntó: "¿Qué es la geofísica?" Entonces Geo le explicó, "La geofísica es una ciencia derivada de la geología que se interesa por el estudio y la comprensión del sistema físico del planeta, haciendo énfasis en sus consideraciones geológicas. Comprende aspectos como la investigación de la composición interna del planeta, el flujo de calor proveniente del interior de este, la fuerza de gravedad que forma el campo gravitacional, la fuerza magnética de atracción y la propagación de las ondas sísmicas a través de las rocas de la corteza terrestre."
Mateo and Geo continued their journey exploring the mountains in the area in search of more caves and suddenly, they felt a tremor that made everything shake. It was an earthquake. When the professors realized how important the study of aspects of geophysics is to better understand and shape the world, they protected themselves until the tremor passed.
Mateo y Geo continuaron su viaje explorando las montañas de la zona en busca de más cuevas y de repente, sintieron un temblor que hizo que todo se sacudiera. Se trataba de un terremoto. Al darse cuenta los profesores de cuán importante es el estudio de los aspectos de la geofísica para comprender y moldear mejor el mundo, se protegieron hasta que pasó el temblor.
From that day on they became assiduous researchers of this wonderful and difficult science, in addition, they tried to share their knowledge about geophysics with their students and always encouraged them to study this career so that there would be more young people prepared to better understand the Earth and thus be able to better exploit its potential and protect it.
Desde ese día en adelante se volvieron asiduos investigadores de esta maravillosa y difícil ciencia, además, procuraron compartir sus conocimientos sobre geofísica a sus alumnos y siempre los incentivaron a que estudiaran esta carrera para que hubiese más jóvenes preparados para entender mejor la Tierra y así poder explotar mejor su potencial y protegerla.
