My favorite bookstore in Serbia - IYC Contest 5

Hello everyone, this is my entry out of competition, for the IYC 5 Contest. First of all, I want to thank @beeber very much for the great inspirational topic and for giving me the honor to be one of the judges at the contest this time. 🙂 That is why my entry is out of competition, but I am happy to join anyway and share with you a special place in my city where I enjoy going to read books and relax.

When it comes to books in Belgrade, you can find them in libraries, bookstores, on the street... Street vendors sell second-hand books, which owners no longer need.

It was never clear to me how people could give up their books because books never lose their value. But it is good that these books are not destroyed and that they can fall into other hands and continue to "live".

When I read the post, written by @irisworld, I was thrilled that the books could be found and read for free at the subway station in South Korea. I would like that to be the case in my city as well, but unfortunately, it is not. And the fact that we don't have a subway shouldn't be the reason. 🙂

There is one place in the city where I feel very relaxed. It's the Bookastore Cafe (with "a" in the middle, it is not a mistake 🙂). Here you can read books while drinking coffee or refreshing ice fruit juice from organic production and eating delicious cookies.

You can choose the book you want or some recommended by the cafe.

This time I chose the book "A Handbook for a Solid Life". The title was following my mood. 🙂

In this cafe, you can enjoy the peace upstairs and feel at home there.

In my city, you can very often see people in parks lying on the grass or sitting on benches and reading books.

When I talk about books, I have to mention one painful place. It is the National Library that was destroyed in 1941 during the bombing of Belgrade. Here it was before it was destroyed.

That is when the most valuable cultural treasure of my country was destroyed. More than 500,000 books. And that was the place where my citizens used to read the most in the past.

Keep your books and enjoy them. They will always be there for you.

Thank you very much for reading.

The images and writing are original and mine.

I invite @duvinca, @deviliclucifer, and @ifarmgirl to join this awesome contest.

Greetings!

Jelena
