Hamilton Bermuda postmark

This sterling silver commemorative remake is from the Franklin Mint, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, minted in 1980. An 1849 postage stamp proof from Hamilton, Bermuda. The original postmark stamps are rare, only 11 examples are known to still be in existence.

The front side of this round has the text "1849" in the center, the year of postage stamping. Along the top curve is the city of issue "HAMILTON", the Bermuda capital. Along the bottom curve is the country of issue "BERMUDA". Above the 1849 is a handwritten style text "OnePenny", the value of the stamp, below the 1849 is the handwritten style text "W.B. Perot", the signature of the postmaster.

The back side of this proof has a thatched type background, with the Franklin Mint mark at the top.

Below that is the text "1848-49 1 PENCE "PEROT" POST PROV BERMUDES 1848-49 1 PENCE "PEROT" TIMBRE PROVISOIRE SOLID STERLING SILVER". Sterling silver is 92.5% silver, 7.5% other metals, it shines.
