Britannia 1oz Silver Coins from the Royal Mint - 2022 and 2023

The Britannia 1oz silver coins are covered with symbolism and a showcasing of mint techniques - produced by the Royal Mint.

Britannia

The first Britannia coin by the Royal Mint was released in 1997. This Britannia design is by Philip Nathan, Britannia is the female personification of Great Britain. A well respected bullion coin for it's recognition and security features.

1oz Silver Britannia

This 1oz .999 fine silver Britannia coin is minted by the Royal Mint. The Royal Mint is highly acclaimed and has worked with the British government for more than 1100 years.

On the front side of the coin stands Britannia with a Trident in her right hand, and an olive branch and Union Jack shield in her left hand. The background has ocean waves that disappear and reappear, depending on the angle of view. Along the curve of the coin is the text "BRITANNIA 2022 1OZ 999 FINE SILVER", the 2023 coin has "2023" for the year.

To the left of Britannia's feet is the circular privy Mark security feature. At some angles it looks like a lock, at other angles it looks like a Trident. The head of state side of the coin has a radial sunburst pattern, and micro text on the inner rim are more of the anti-counterfeiting features.

The back side of the coin features the head of Elizabeth II on the 2022 coin, the head of Charles III on the 2023.

Along the back curve of the coin is the text "ELIZABETH II D G REX F D 2 POUNDS" for the 2022 coin, "CHARLES III D G REX F D 2 POUNDS" for the 2023. "D G REX F D" stands for the Latin phrase "Dei Gratia Rex Fidei Defensor", which means "by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith".
