Rearing Golden Horse

The Perth Mint, while continuing a line of coins celebrating Chinese heritage, has again displayed exemplary craftsmanship with 'The Jewelled Horse'. Rightly so, the coin is designated as 'innovative' due to the combination of pink diamond and gold.

The background, while clearly overshadowed by the spectacular horse, depicts traditional Chinese architecture and cherry blossoms. Immense effort has been placed into the background, but the object of importance is clearly the horse.

It is crafted from pink diamonds, taking approximately 2.76 carats of them. Incredibly, the horse is 3D to give a far more realistic feel. Hence the shadow on the coin.

On closer inspection of the coin, you will also see that the eyes are made of a different type of diamond. The two eyes are composed of gold diamond, an incredibly rare diamond that is quite simply stunning.

Due to the complex nature of this coin, there are only eight of them minted, with each of them going for a cool 276 000 AUD. So yes, I do not have this coin in the back drawer, and even if you do purchase it, that is not where it will go.

Purchasers of the coin receive delivery of it in a case that is covered in pink gold motifs, and even more incredibly, the coin is constantly rotating to fully display the mesmerizing horse.

So while any reader of this is unlikely to ever end up with a coin like this, it is still incredible to see what skilled craftsmanship to the highest degree can achieve.
