Venezuealan Silver Coins (aka: am I going crazy???)

The period before moving back to Australia was a bit of a chaotic period... lots of things to be prepared for the move, plus the house sale, plus just keeping regular life goinguntil the very last week... Of course, if we were great deal richer, then we could have made the move a poop load easier... but we aren't, and so the chaos was always going to be there. I sort of envy the salaried people, who can just bank up paid leave so that they can do this... or their company pays for everything. But as a freelance musician, well, if you don't work, you have no income! And expenses don't take a break when you do!

Anyway, when we arrived, and I was trying to find things in various places... I had a memory of some Venezuelan coins that I had picked up just before leaving. And seeing as the coin collections had been already packed away, I stashed these away... somewhere safe in the shipment. And as everyone knows... past self is always going to be a lot more clever about creating hidden stashes than future self will be at finding them.

Fast forward 6 months, and I have the memory of some silver coins hidden away somewhere. Just post World War 2 pieces, at around 0.835 purity Silver. And I have found a few of them... but not hte ones that I was thinking about. I could have sworn that there were a few more in larger denominations... Did I forget to pack them, did I stash them somewhere "safe" that I will find out about in a few years time... or did one of the kids decide that they were playthings?

Anyway, I can't complain... perhaps my brain and memory are playing tricks on me... and these larger pieces never existed in my care? At least I have these six smaller ones... which are pretty cool!

One of the original South American "freedom fighters" figures on the back... and these coins are in tolerable condition for their age.

Some more than others! These two... Bolivar hasn't gone bald yet!

What I have noticed since moving back to Australia, is that all these interesting old coins in silver are much more difficult to find than it was in Europe. Not really such a big surprise, there has been more historical traffic to Europe than there has been to Australia... and the population sizes are quite significantly different! But it is still sad to see that it is so hard to pick up these interesting coins from far off places at a manageable price.
