The Episode Challenge: A Praetorian Bounty
The People's Guild: A Splinterlands Podcast
Welcome back to the People's Guild. We've started a new segment of the show in which we aim to engage the writers & content creators out there through a new per-episode challenge.
First and foremost, congratulations to our co-winners of this past challenge, @dejota, @saydie and @ghostlybg. As we've a 3-way tie, 50% of this post's rewards will be distributed evenly amongst them. We had a massive turn out this past challenge, so thank you again to all that contributed to the #TPGCHALLENGE!
The Next Challenge
Greetings, TPG community!
This next challenge is going to be a 3 part series; the first of which focuses on abilities and will run through October 27, allowing for plenty of time to submit some well constructed ideas.
As you all are creating your abilities, be mindful of what monsters with these abilities could look like (this will be in parts 2 and 3 of the challenge!).
Good luck & have fun!
Create Abilities for the Dominion Set
As we were preparing for this next challenge, we decided to focus in on something fun. Bear in mind we do not work for Splinterlands and the entirety of this challenge is purely an exercise of creativity!
We would like to introduce the DOMINION card set, featuring a brand new class of monsters known as Domineers. We are calling upon the creativity of the Splinterlands players to help design 7 new team-wide abilities, each unique to their respective elements:
- Life
- Water
- Death
- Fire
- Earth
- Dragon
- Neutral
The DOMINION set would replace the Gladiator cards in guild brawls (and only guild brawls), and this challenge is your chance to help shape how these new monsters would impact gameplay. These abilities will focus on team-wide benefits, setting them apart from the self-focused Bloodlust ability of the Gladius cards.
What to Consider:
Team-wide Benefit Focus:
The new abilities should provide short bursts of benefits (1 or 2 rounds) or minor adjustments to stats that affect the entire team rather than just a single monster.Thematic Element Roots:
Each ability must reflect the essence of its element. For example, a Water-themed ability might slow the opponent’s team, while an Earth ability could grant temporary resilience to the entire team.Exclusive to Dominion:
These abilities should feel distinct from Gladius cards. The goal is to create something fresh and powerful but also balanced.Clear Differentiation:
We would like to propose doing away with the Conscript ability summoning Domineers. Focus on abilities that provide creative, short-term boosts to the entire team.
Examples to Spark Inspiration:
- Water: Drown – Slows the opponent’s entire team by 1 speed for 1 round after the Domineer kills an enemy.
- Earth: Barkskin – After a kill, the entire team gains +1 armor for 2 rounds, representing the sturdy resilience of nature.
- Fire: Combustion – Upon an enemy kill, all allied monsters receive +1 attack for 1 round, symbolizing the fiery rage of the element.
- Dragon: Dominance – When a Domineer defeats an enemy, your team gains +1 speed and +1 health for 1 round, representing the commanding nature of dragons.
Your Challenge:
Design 7 unique abilities, each aligned with one of the core Splinterlands elements. Think about how these abilities can add strategic depth to brawls, encouraging teamwork and leveraging the essence of each element.
We look forward to seeing how you envision these Domineers shaping the future of Splinterlands.
Let’s create something epic together!
Rewards:
As we kick off this exciting 3-part series, running through November 10, we’re celebrating one of our biggest undertakings yet with an array of rewards (thank you to all who've donated thus far!). The competition will be fierce, but so will the prizes! We’ve gathered an epic stash, including a substantial pot of SPS and Chaos Legion packs, to give away to the top contributors. The winner will be determined by cumulative votes across all parts of the challenge, so bring your best ideas, and let’s make this a legendary event! Keep an eye on those votes because the glory (and the loot) will belong to the most creative mind!
Once you've got your post together, be sure to tag us @thepeoplesguild & toss the tag #TPGCHALLENGE on there so we can be sure to get eyes on it.
As a note, our weekly challenge will be based upon any of the following:
- A Monster or Summoner
- An Ability
- A Ruleset
- An Element
- A Mana Cap
- A suggested Ability or Ruleset
- A Player Bounty
- Wider Splinterlands Questions and Thoughts
- Marketing & other DAO-related activities
- Other Hive games & Dapps
Let the battles begin!
