Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge: Mycelic Infantry (feat. Runi the sidekick)

Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: EARTH
Attack: MELEE
Abilities: Shield, Giant Killer, Enrage

Battle Rules:

  • Reverse Speed
  • Divine Shield

Mycelic Infantry only has 1 Speed, it excels when the battle rule is Reverse Speed, where the slowest becomes the fastest

The theme for this set up, is the traditional tank and spank approach, with the Mycelic Infantry, taking on the opposing tank (most people use a melee tank), while Mycelic Slipspawn takes the off-tank position to draw damages from the back lane away from Mycelic Infantry.

Position #1: Tank - Mycelic Infantry

  • 1 speed makes it the best for Reverse Speed
  • Shield negates 1 physical damage per hit
  • Giant Killer Double damage against targets that cost 10 or more mana (i.e. Fire Splinter Legendary Grum Flameblade with 11 mana cost)
  • Enrage increase damage once damaged

Position #2: Sand Worm

  • Sneak to attack from behind, typically good against healers or ranged
  • Snare to remove remove Flying abilities
  • Piercing to damage the armor and health in the same term (if the opponent uses Water Splinter or units with "Protect" ability
  • 4 speed is a disadvantage in reverse speed, the 7 attack with Piercing and Sneak hopefully make up for it

Position #3: Mycelic Slipspawn

  • This card is the insurance to pull magic attacks away from Mycelic Infantry
  • Taunt to draw all enemies behind the tank to target this card
  • Forcefield reduced the damage down to 1 of the opponent's attack power is 5+
  • Slow is a disadvantage in Reverse Speed, it gives the opponent an advantage, but this is the sacrifice I am willing to make as the other 2 abilities are crucial

Position #4: Runi, my very personalize Runi!

  • This is one of my favorite cards especially for Reverse Speed!
  • The one of a kind design will stun the opponent and increase the win rate by 0.0000001%
  • Opportunity with True Strike ensure the lowest health enemies are taken out quickly without miss
  • Refection Shield ignores Thorns, and protects against Blast
  • Rebirth resurrects after death, with Divine Shield rule set, it is like 2 more lives!

Position #5: Goblin Psychic

  • This is one of the most useful and powerful card for the Earth splinter
  • Tank Heal keeps Mycelic Infantry alive longer
  • Affliction makes the target unhealable (counters opponent's heals)
  • Silence reduces the magic attack of all enemy monsters by 1
  • Dispel removes buffs from the enemy
  • 1 speed is a bonus for this ruleset!

Position #6: Doctor Blight

  • This is one of the most overpowered card, especially in the Diamond/Champion league
  • How does this card synergize? This is like owning an I-WIN button, use it when you can
  • 1 speed for Reverse Speed, can't get any better than that
  • Affliction makes the target unhealable (duplicates Goblin Psychic)
  • Poison does 2 damages per round once applied (this is the skill that wins the game in this battle)
  • With Camouflage, it sits hidden in the very back damaging and poisoning the opponent without getting targeted
  • While accumulating health from the Scavenger ability, until the last doctor standing
  • With Weaken, it is a free and immediate 6 health reduction to the opponent

Conclusion:

  • Opponent's Mycelic Slipspawn rendered my Sand Worm useless, turned 7 damage attack into 1 damage via Forcefield
  • I have the tendency to max out the mana, and that is a mistake in this battle
  • I also tried very hard to incorporate Runi (😍❤️💘)
  • If I had to redo this again, I would have picked Goblin Tower (7 mana, 5 ranged attack, 1 speed) - Blast to take care of Divine Shield, or Magi of Chaos (6 mana, 4 magic attack, 2 speed) to have a better synergy with the summoner
  • MVP goes to Doctor Blight's Poison, it saved this battle
  • Runner up is Runi, it took two deaths for the team and landed the killing blow on the very annoying Mycelic Slipspawn
