This is my entry for the weekly Splinterlands Art Contest found HERE

Here is the original card art:

A scion is an heir to royalty or nobility, so I went with a more prim and proper elf spell-slinger for my version.

Created in Clip Studio Paint Pro on a Microsoft Surface Pro 7+. Here is the timelapse video:

And here is the step-by-step drawing process:

Step One: Rough draft. I use a 40 px pastel pencil to block out the rough shape

Step Two: Line art. I used a thick G-pen, going for a more comic-booky style

Step Three: Flat color layer. Didn't bother creating separate color layers for each color element. Just filled them all in on one layer.

Step Four: Shading! Just some fast swipes with a black water color brush on a multiply layer.

Step Five: Overlay layer for reflected light and a glow layer for some magic

Step Six: Shadow. Copy the color layer, make it black, and use the free transform tool to skew it behind her. Also reduce the opacity to 50% and fade it out a bit with the aribrush tool

Step Seven: Background layer. Just some water color in a nice contrasting purple

Step Eight: Sign my name so that everyone knows it is an authentic piece by Matt S. Law.

Step Nine: Fame and fortune!

Enjoy your week everyone!
