Also, consider card rental costs, some of the older, but very powerful cards can be a great deal in the rental market, while the most powerful cards in the Modern tournaments could be really expensive to rent since everyone wants those for earning more SPS in the Modern Ranked Play.
Collection Power Requirements
Each tournament requires you to meet a specific Collection Power (CP) threshold to participate. This requirement differs between Modern and Wild tournaments. Keep in mind that Gladiator cards and cards wagered on land do not count toward your Collection Power.
Before registering for a tournament, check your current Collection Power. If you don’t meet the requirement, consider renting cards to temporarily boost your Collection Power and qualify.

Open Tournaments

Anytime Tournaments
These types of tournaments used to be my favorite when I participated in the tournaments they allow you to submit your teams at your convenience within a designated time window. This time window is usually 24 hours per round but you should check the terms of your specific tournament and verify This flexibility is perfect for players with varying schedules.
Time management is crucial. Be sure to submit your teams within the allowed timeframe or your battles will result in automatic losses.
Single Elimination
In this intense format, once you lose, you're out. Players must register and “check in” before the tournament starts to be eligible.
Be ready at the exact start time and "check in" promptly. Prepare in advance by researching opponents to increase your chances.
Sit-and-Go Tournaments
These tournaments begin as soon as the minimum number of players registers, offering a quick and fast-paced tournament experience.
If you’re short on time, Sit-and-Go tournaments are a great way to play quickly. They’re ideal for those who want shorter, more immediate tournaments.
