Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! Testing new Strategies with HIGH PRIEST DARIUS

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.

We are going strong and in the middle of another season. This week we are learning about more cards and we will focus on a legendary unit called High Priest Darius. I have not played enough with this unit and it is the right time to see what it can offer in my lineups. This is a powerful mage which comes at an expensive price of 10 mana. Can this justify its high cost? Let's find out and have a look at its stats in detail.

High Priest Darius is a legendary Life unit which came out in the Untamed edition. It has the Resurrect ability and costs a hefty price of 10 mana.

It is a powerful mage that deals 3 magic damage with 2-speed points and comes with 6 hp. I had a level 1 unit only and it may seem like 10 mana costs a lot but its powerful magic attacks and resurrect ability should not be taken lightly.

Now, let's see a battle where I used it to my advantage.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

It was a 43-man battle and had the standard ruleset. This allowed me to choose my lineup freely but only 3 elements were active: fire, life and dragon.

I used the Chanseus the Great as my summoner as it has the Repair and Resurrect and Triage abilities and would have been useful during this battle.

In the first position, I used the Chaos Agent. It costs just 1 mana so it didn't have great stats but I didn't expect much from this. It was there just to take one or two hits and it can survive longer with the resurrect abilities as well. In the hindsight, I could have used someone with more shield to get the most benefit of resurrects but that would mean cutting off more mana for my attackers.

Next was the High Priest Darius. As I said earlier, it is a powerful mage dealing 3 magic attacks with 2 speeds. Its resurrect ability is a game-changer and can be a lot of pain for my opponents. Although it only has 6 hp which is less for a 10 mana costing unit.

In the third place, I used the Bila the Radiant, which is another powerful mage which also deals with 3 magic attacks on its own and comes with two interesting abilities. The first one is Life Leech which is one of my favourite abilities and the other divine shield which absorbs the first hit without giving any damage.

Next was the Magi of Chaos, as you can already guess I was going for a powerful magic attack to decide the battle quickly. I knew my defence was not the best and I focused more on increasing the attacking strength to get rid of my opponent's unit quickly and this unit played a nice role as well.

In the fifth position, I used the Time Mage, it was yet another mage and dealt 2 magic attacks on its own. But this one comes with a special ability called Slow and it can decrease the speed of all enemy monsters in the enemy lineup. Having all this at only 4 mana was just perfect for me.

In the last position, I used the Djinn Renova which gave all the monsters much required extra health. It was possible due to its Strenghten ability. This completed my powerful magic attackers lineup and I was all set to battle it out now.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

With 43 mana and an unrestrictive ruleset, I made sure to make a powerful attacking lineup which can take down the strongest tanks quickly and easily. To achieve this I used magic damage exclusively.

The summoner had interesting abilities, its triage ability was good enough and I was not looking forward to a long drawn-out battle but a quick kill. Of course, I was taking some risks by not using a proper tank in the front which can utilize the resurrect abilities to their full potential. But I was more focused on attacking than defending in this battle hence the use of those powerful attacking mages.

Round 1

My opponent went with dragons and used two heavy tanks at the front of the lineup. They even tried to reduce my ranged attacker's strength with their summoner but I didn't use them in my lineup. So that was a big win for me.

The battle started with my opponent's tank, Djinn Chwala taking hits from my mages. Its 5 shields were worthless at this point and its thorns ability was useless as well.

Just like I suspected my Chaos Agent died quickly only to be resurrected again from the ashes. But their tank couldn't get up once it died by the end of this battle. I was surprised to see my Chaos Agent still standing there mocking everyone on the enemy side.

Round 2

It happened again, my Chaos Agent got up from the ashes. This time it was resurrected by my summoner.

Now their Chaos Dragon was on the front and taking a beating from my heavy magic damage. Finally, my 1 mana cost Chaos Agent died and right after that their second important tank also died which was holding the entire lineup.

Round 3 & 4

Both of these rounds were easy for me and my monsters destroyed their units one after the other while they couldn't even take down my High Priest Darius. Nothing went in favour of the opponent right from the start. This was an easy win for me in the end.

They had no precautions against this heavy magic attack and as I expected it was an easy job for my units to take down the two powerful tanks at the front of the lineup.

Conclusion

High Priest Darius is a powerful mage who comes with a very useful Resurrect ability that helps with any ruleset or against any type of attack, just like we saw in this battle it can become tough to even get rid of weak units. And combining it with more resurrect abilities can become so powerful.

However, the 10 mana cost is still a bit high and that makes it unusable in lower mana cap battles. Also, its low health and no armour make it vulnerable to powerful attackers. One should use it carefully in their battles.
