My Splinterlands Journey in a Nutshell

Hello and welcome to my blog!

This week we were asked to share our journey into the world of this exciting web3 game called Splinterlands. Here is the post's link if you want to read about this challenge!

A Strange start

It was all a happy coincidence back in November 2021, I was getting bored of playing the conventional games on my mobile and PC and crypto was going to the moon and along with it were the web3 games. So, I went to the Google search bar and searched for the "best crypto-related games" and guess what, Splinterlands was one of the top search results. It tickled my itchy fingers that were ready to try new games and I went to the website to learn more about the game.

But when I watched some YouTube videos of the same, only then I was excited to start the game. I played without buying the Summoner's spell book. I liked the strategic nature of the game and how everything felt good and there was some incentive to just go more into the crypto space and what more fun way to do it than to play a game!

Around that time the talks were all about the Chaos Legion sale which was about to drop in a few months.

I played a lot of games in my early stage where I was just experimenting with all the strategies, learning the fundamentals of the games, losing a lot of games but still getting the hang of it. And once the Chaos Legion edition fully rolled out, there were so many new units which I had to relearn all about them. But it made the game more interesting for me.

I have made a lot of friends just because of this game and the underlying blockchain community. If it was not for this game, I might never known about the Hive blockchain So, I have a lot to thank Splinterlands.

Tips for beginners

My advice for beginners would be to go slow and read about all the FAQs and learn abilities. You can use the challenge feature to challenge your friends and this is a great way to learn new strategies without losing your battle mana or trophies. Always remember that losing is part of the game but analysing why you lost is very critical. Just like chess, it is so important to look at what can be improved and what can't. I wrote some tips before, let me share them again!

  • Practice, practice and practice (There is no shortcut to this, you just have to play the game for longer)

  • Don't get too attached to the result of the game and focus more on learning the strategies (As I said before, focus on the process not just on the results)

  • Join communities on discords, telegrams, Hive etc (If you are reading this, you have joined at least one of them. Explore more!)

  • Share your experience with others and blog on Hive. Also, take part in challenges like this (When you write and explain your strategies you will understand it much better, just try it.)

  • Rent your way up if you can't afford to buy cards (No need to buy a $150 card just rent them for much cheaper and see if it helps)
Watch replays and don't skip them (Especially when you are trying new strategies and units)

  • Go to the help section of Splinterlands website and read all the resources!

-Take part in tournaments and other challenges.

  • Join a Guild and play Brawls, which will help you get extra rewards.

  • Make friends and HAVE FUN! (This is the most important of them all)

Watching some YouTube tutorials helps a lot, I watched a few of them and that's how I learned some of the basics. Try to build a deck over time with cards that you are most comfortable with.

It would be a lie to say that I have achieved all that I thought of achieving in the game, I played in mostly silver and sometimes gold leagues but it gets competitive in the bigger leagues and the rewards are great. My focus right now is to help my Guild get stronger so I tend to take my brawls very seriously, even though I mostly suck at the game...lol

My Goals and Accomplishments

I didn't take part in a lot of tournaments but I want to change it in this year. My goal is to get better in the game especially the competitive part of it, I need to be more confident and participate in a lot more events and tournaments. I have been afraid to go into that part of the game for so long but this year it is time to mend it.

I have been holding onto some Chaos Legion packs too, and will rip them open to see what more units I can get.

This has been an interesting journey for me, I have learned a lot and I am looking forward to the coming days. Thanks to all the people who helped me in this journey. There are so many of them to mention here. But I remember every one of you, kind souls.

Thanks for reading!
