TPG Challenge : New Player Experience Quest and Event

Hello everybody, today I will post about the Splinterlands Challenge from The People's Guild, to discuss several improvements that can make Splinterlands more interesting and challenging for Beginners through Experts.

New Player Difficulty

I think for the new player this game is very complicated, there are so many rulesets, abilities, and cards that new players become confused about deciding which one to start learning first, and in the process they experience defeat after defeat which makes them give up playing this game, so I think there are several ways to solve this problem:

  • By providing quests for beginners, for example by breaking the quest into 6 elements, so that when you are on a quest with the Fire element only that element can be used, in this quest we can give several missions, for example winning using a unit with Sneak ability while explaining what the Sneak ability is and examples of units that have this ability. We can increase the difficulty of the mission gradually, and when we are finished with the missions for each element we can start opening new missions that contain battle using 2/3 elements at once, to get more experience, and finally can open more missions to play with all elements. Of course, to encourage new players who are playing it, there must be a prize given in each mission / after completing several missions, it can be in the form of a card or a free complete rental card with 1 element in the Bronze league (Beginner Starter Deck) for 1 season which is strong enough to win the battle (needs to be set so that new players are not confused about what cards must be rented in order to win). With this rental card, new players can get SPS from battle and are also enthusiastic about completing missions from other elements. After completing certain missions, you may be able to get certain stronger summoners/units for free rental / pay at a discount but only last for a few days. After the rental of the Beginner Starter Deck runs out, it can be arranged so that players can rent again at a cheap/discount price for the Bronze league card.

  • by making the story/lore from Splinterlands into a campaign where new players can learn the story in Splinterland and also fight enemies (bots). And after completing the story, you can get cards from the characters in the lore.

  • The card new player rents (Beginner Starter Deck) can be owned (Rent to Own) after finishing some mission, for example:

    • Winning using Pelacor Conjurer for 30 battles
    • Using Obsidian summoner defeat Mantaroth 10 times,
    • Use Pelacor Bandit in Earthquake ruleset, etc.

With this method, the new player can get the card and get SPS that can be used to repurchase more cards, if they enjoy the gameplay, and want to move to a higher league they may invest more in Splinterlands.

  • Create tournaments with rules that are advantageous to new players, such as only being able to use cards from the Beginner Starter Deck, because new players are used to playing with this deck, they will be more skilled than middle-ranked players who are used to playing with more complete cards and if the player's veterans/experts take part in the competition the new players can put a fight. This tournament aims to create healthy competition that triggers the desire to get better cards and improve their abilities so they can win and get prizes from the tournament.

  • If we want new players to be more enthusiastic about playing and completing their missions, a Weekly Challenge event can be held, for example, those who complete a total of 100 missions every week on day 2 can get a discount for purchasing/rent cards that are not in "Beginner Starter Deck" or Splinterlands team can add pack exclusive for the new player and reward the pack every 2 weeks if the player manages to reach total mission requirement.

  • Give the new player an optional deck for rent, for example, Beginner Starter Deck 2 or 3, so they can learn more cards, if they switch the deck the mission of the missing card in the new deck will be reset, so they will need to start again to get Rent to Own card.

Improvement for New and Old Player

  • Bring more events for example the Splinterlands team can add more buttons for battle in the Valentine's event separate from our main battle or disable the main battle so everybody must join it for several hours if they want to play. Use only Beginner Starter Deck, you can choose the deck from several optional Starter Decks, with various cards making the battle more interesting. If you win, you can get chocolate that can be used to move the roulette machine which contains Sps/Dec/Glint/Merit.

  • Boss event, almost the same as the event above but this time the system is different, this event will automatically come out if someone in the Champion league climb and reaches a certain rating, for example rating 4500, 5100 (can only happen once). then the Fight Boss button can be pressed. This boss will imitate the best stats of each unit that we bring and have 2 type of attack melee and magic. For example, our best speed in Pelacor Bandit has stat 5, and Arkemist the Bear has the strongest damage of 3 then the boss monsters will imitate it (the boss stats can't drop below 3). The health will show the number if drops below 12000. Randomly boss that appears will also take our ability (Heal, Swiftness, Immunity, Leech, etc) it can only take the ability that can be used for itself with a limit of 5 abilities that can be taken. It can't take an ability like Slow/Blind because that ability is used/put in the enemy. The rule for this event :

    • SPS prize, for example, 20,000 SPS which will be divided based on the amount of damage from each player during the event (I think 2-3 hours for an event like this)
    • To make both beginners and experts take part in this event fairly, only the Beginner Starter Deck can be used and is provided by Splinterlands.
    • Each battle will use energy as usual with the aim of causing damage to the boss that appears. At the end of each battle, it will record how much damage we managed to do.
    • Players who successfully kill this boss monster will get additional damage of 2x the original amount of damage.
    • There is a special website where you can see the leaderboard of the damage we do to increase competition.
