Strategy

Kelya art.png

For information, I play in diamond League Modern Format, using a scholar account from Balthazar, which contains a Chaos Legion card max and several reward cards (normal, rare, epic).
My strategy is based on the cards I have/carry.
First, let's look at the ruleset Divine Shield, usually bringing monsters with blast skills will make it easier for us to defeat the enemy, because the blast skill will remove the effect of the divine shield in several monster at once.
Then we'll see the Mana Cap is 60 which means high mana battle and we can freely bring monsters that have large mana without worrying about a lack of mana.
After that, we check the elements that can be brought, the summoners I have in these 3 elements are:

  1. Water Element, Kelya Frendul
  2. Life Element, General Sloan, Grandmaster rathe
  3. Death Element, Thaddius Brood

We first analyze the strength of these 3 elements based on the battle for high mana and the cards I have:

  1. Water, has lots of monsters that have high damage and HP, especially monsters with the Magic and Melee types. It have monsters that have Taunt skills which is strong against magic and range monster
  2. Life, the damage of the range monsters is great, especially when using the summoner General Sloan, unfortunately the speed is only mediocre and the average HP is small. Also has monsters with Melee and Magic attack types with decent damage, most of them have not too much HP and armor, although there are some exceptions such as Shieldbearer, Uriel The Purifier, etc.
When using the summoner Grandmaster Rathe, it makes it easier for us to fight monsters with magic types. unfortunately in this life element we don't have monsters with Taunt skills, Shieldbearer is a monster from untamed card, so we don't have it.
  3. Death, more suitable for fighting magic-type monsters, because the summoner Thaddius Brood can reduce magic damage by 1. Death has several monster ranges with great damage. unfortunately it doesn't have armor, and HP isn't that big.

Conclusion :
Even though Life has a range with blast skills (prismologist), when dealing with water, usually Life having hard time to hit (miss) water monster, especially if the water tanker is a serpent of Eld/Diemonshark. If the enemy choose water it will be difficult to defeat.
For Death in high mana battle is not suitable because some of the monsters don't have armor, and also the size of their HP tends to be mediocre/a bit small, also there are no monsters that have the skill taunt (i don't have it). When dealing with Water Kelya, who has armor, it will be difficult for her to win.

So in my opinion the most appropriate choice is Water, have monster with taunt skill that can return range attacks, have void skill to reduce magic damage by half, and has a large HP, so we can focus on dealing with Melee attack.
This battle uses 60 mana caps, usually players, especially new splinterland players, will try to use monsters with large mana that have the biggest attacks they have and make sure that they use as much mana as possible, usually i do like that too, but this time I will do something different, i will use a monster formation that prioritizes defense and as the main attacker is a monster that has poison skills, with a defensive formation we can survive longer while waiting for the poison that we successfully inflict on the enemy's side to work. So i'm decided to only used 33 mana as the best formation in defense for my water card.

My Line Up

SUMMONER
Kelya Frendul
Kelya Frendul.png
Kelya Frendul skill.png
Very popular Summoner from Water element, i think every player need to learn how to battle using Kelya, he is very balance summoner, can adapt in many ruleset

Baakjira - First Position Tanker
I put this in first position , because this monster very hard to kill, have high HP, can Heal and when receiving magic damage will be reduced by half.

Deep Lurker - Second Position Attacker
Deeplurker.png
Deeplurker skil.png

This our main attacker put this in 2nd position because i think it's save enough, our tanker very hard to kill and we brought monster with taunt skill.
Strength :

  • Have very usefull support skill demoralize. Reduces the damage of all enemy melee monsters by 1.
  • High Attack, good speed.
  • Have Poison skill, very dangeous skill when inflict to enemy monster will give +2 damage every round

Weakness :
can't think of anything, I think with only 6 mana cost, it's the best monster with opportunity skill in all element. If he have more than he have right now will make the game imbalance.

Uraeus - Third Position, attacker
Uraeus.png
Uraeus skill.png

This is our 2nd attacker, i put it at third position which i think the safest position from enemy attacks, cause his stat is weaker than Deeplurker,
Strength :

  • Have armor
  • For 3 mana cost it have good damage and speed
  • Have poison skill for 3 mana cost for sneak monster is amazing|

Weakness :
Same like Deeplurker, i think all is good already. No need to add anything cause will make the game become imbalance.

Spirit Hoarder - Fourth Position, Attacker and support
Spirit Hoarder.png
Spirit Hoarder Skill.png
I used it because it have Triage skill to heal our taunt monster. Other skill that usefull for this battle is skill blind which can increase chance to evade range/melee attack from enemy monster by 15%
Angelic Mandarin - Fifth Position, Attacker and support
Angelic Mandarin.png
Angelic Mandarin skill.png
Same as Spirit Hoarder i used it to heal our taunt monster, have good skill support silence, which can reduce all enemy magic attack by 1
Wave Brood - Sixth Position, Tanker
Wave Brood.png
Wave Brood skills.png
This is our main tanker, Have taunt skill, some monster skill for example skill reach will override this it will still attack monster in first position, Void and Return Fire is very good skill if the enemy bring a lot of magic and range monster. This monster easy to die when attacked by many melee monster with big damage, cause he is slow and not have skill to defend against melee attacker.

Battle Review

Round 1 :
round 1.png
Battle starts with buffs and debuffs from both sides. In this round, no one died, it was seen that the two Wave Broods reversed the attacks of range-type monsters from both sides. The enemy's Wave Brood is poisoned by Uraeus.

Round 2 :
Round 2.png
The enemy Wave Brood dies in this round but is resurrected by River Hellondale. Our Wave Brood doesn't lose its HP because it gets healed from Angelic mandarin and Spirit Hoarder

Round 5.png
The enemy's Angelic Mandarin is poisoned by Uraeus. After the enemy's Wave Brood dies, Spirit Hoarde attacks Diemonshark, reducing his HP causing Diemonshark's enrage skill to activate and increasing his damage and speed.
In this Round no one dies.

Round 5 :
Round 4.png
River Hellondale enemy dies in this round due to the effects of poison from Deeplurker, followed by Angelic mandarin due to being attacked by Uraeus

Round 6 :
Round 6.png
Nerissa Tridawn was poisoned by Uraeus' attack, so was Diemonshark who was attacked by Deeplurker.
In the 6th round it has been seen that victory will be ours, the monsters on our side have not lost their HP, everything is still as it was at the start of the battle.

Question of the Day

  • Did your strategy work? '
Yes the strategy of using poison to kill the enemy was successful. Althought the enemy monster and summoner used total of 46 mana cost can't defeat our monster which used only 33 mana. The monsters on the enemy's side are almost entirely inflict by poison and also because we use the Wave Brood, the enemy attacks are divided into 2, Diemonshark and Flying Squid attack Baakjira, while 4 other monsters attack Wavebrood.
Baakjira at the start of each round will recover his HP by 6 while the combined attacks of Flying Squid and Diemonshark are only 7, it can be seen that Flying Squid missed several times when attacking Baakjira due to the Spirit Hoarder's Blind skill.
While the monsters that attack Wave Brood consist of monsters:

    • 2 monsters with magic attack type, with the skill Void Wave Brood reducing the damage by half,
    • 2 monsters with ranged attack type, Wave Brood reflected their attack back.

With two monsters having triage and heal the Wave Brood, It can't die.

  • What will you try differently next time?
I think this strategy is good enough, but we need to check previous battle from the enemy, if he brought monster with affliction skill (this skill make monster can't receive heal) like Doctor Blight we need to change Spirit Hoarder to River Nymph which have cleanse to remove affliction status (only work for first position monster thought).

  • Do I like using poison monster like Uraeus and Deeplurker?
I like it and use him a lot especially Uraeus because it's neutral monster so all other elements can use him, and have small mana cost.
Deeplurker is a poison monster with great damage, this is one of the water elemental monsters that I use a lot too. I usually used it in medium or high mana battle. Sometimes it's a bit difficult to use, cause the enemy brings lots of monsters with low HP as tankers, Deeplurker will attack them first, and ignore other monsters which have great damage and are more dangerous.

What do you think about my battle review ? If i make mistake please let me know and leave your comment. Thanks for reading.
