Splinterlands Card Population Spotlight - Episode 5 24.02.22-04.03.22

In this series I am going to drop 5 Random cards into the spotlight to analyse population decline over the course of the week or period of time. The aim of these posts are to hopefully get people to identify the deflationary pressure rate on certain cards relative to their price and popularity and hopefully help you determine which cards you may need to make a move on (before they become out of reach financially). This episode I am having a look at a range of regular foil cards. My analysis is primarily focussed on what I see of each card in bronze and silver level leagues. I hope you enjoy!

Tortisian Fighter

Tortisian Fighter - Untamed Series - Water - Common
Abilities: Shield (lvl 4), Repair (lvl 8)

The Tortisian Fighter rates itself as a low end Tank for low summoning point battles. At level 4 it gains the Shield ability solidifying it's use as a Tank.

Thoughts - Not a card you see too often on the field in play unless conditions really favour such as reverse speed and low point battles. It's hard to find a solid argument for the Tortisian Fighter's use case, particularly when Cruel Sethropod can be purchased for 1/10th the price and is actually stronger at level 3 and costs 3 summoning points instead of 4. Long term, this card will probably find itself in the graveyard of Splinterlands cards that have become obsolete bar event modes and maybe higher ranked battles where it gains the Repair ability. The card is not seeing much price movement or burns which leads me to think others tend to agree with the above thoughts.

Price Change: $.31-$.31

Regular Foil Population Change: 36,705-36,695

Feral Spirit

Feral Spirit - Beta Series - Life - Common
Abilities: Sneak (lvl 1)

The Feral Spirit is a fast Sneak backline monster that gains an extra attack at lvl 4 making for a very formidable and annoying kitty.

Thoughts - I actually rate this card in the lower levels as one of those 'must haves' for your life deck. The Feral Spirit is useful for several strategies including odd mana, sneak and low summing point battles. However, if not carefully hidden/protected it is vulnerable to damage. You still see it around from time to time, but the bots don't like it as it is not a viable card at $3. This actually advantages anyone willing to spend the $3 it's currently worth to give you another option. I'm bullish on the long term value of this card as it has reached such a point in it's deflation that less than 17 thousand people can own this card for future use and that number is steadily dropping still. This leads me to think it won't be long before this Spirit rises to a price more suitable of it's worth.

Price Change: $3.12-$3.09
Regular Foil Population Change: 16,939-16,912

Fire Spitter

Fire Spitter - Reward Series - Dragon - Epic
Abilities: Flying (lvl 1), Dodge (lvl 6)

The Fire Spitter boasts a good mix of speed, ranged attack and health. Add the Flying Ability this ranged dragon is a scary backline prospect for any opponent it comes up against.

Thoughts - Up until recently I'd barely given the Fire Spitter a second thought. Then it's price dropped and dropped and finally caught my attention when I played a battle in Silver 1 or Gold 3 where it decimated my lineup because I couldn't land a hit on it. It was something stupid where I had been slowed and earthquake was in play. It made me realise this card is actually quite useful with any strategy where you play for misses. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that with 8 burns in just over a week that the Fire Spitter has a slowed in deflation, but I think right now it is a good price to buy and I do think there is a place for it moving forward, particularly with the 4 summoning point cost to bring onto the field. As an investment, this is one of those cards that could go to the moon or slowly grow over time in line with the slow burn rate.

Price Change:$6.00-$5.00
Regular Foil Population Change: 11,711-11,703

Drake Of Arnak

Drake Of Arnak - Untamed Series - Dragon - Rare
Abilities: +1 Armour

The Drake Of Arnak is a Dragon Summoner that provides a +1 Armour starting bonus to all monsters.

Thoughts - The Drake is one of those summoners that is nagging for opponents in the lower levels. Particularly in matches where there is relative low summoning points as it drains turns from limited monsters on the field, often draining damage from monsters with 2+ Melee or Ranged attack. With the release of Chaos Legion we have seen a gradual pull back on this summoner due to cheaper options and this may allow for those looking to own it finally a chance to do so. As a summoner there are definitely better and cheaper options out there, so I wouldn't go breaking my piggy bank on this unless your thinking event modes.

Price Change: $7.25-$6.17
Regular Foil Population Change: 13,680-13,708

Mushroom Seer

Mushroom Seer - Reward Series - Earth - Rare
Abilities: Silence (lvl 1), Poison (lvl 5)

The Mushroon Seer is a Magic powerhouse with Silence as a starting ability. This makes the Seer an extremely useful backline card.

Thoughts - This is one of those cards everyone is bullish on. It is popular and definitely useable with the addition of the Obsidian Summoner to the Earth arsenal. And on top of that, the Silence ability reduces the magic of your opponents making for a good counter in a double magic dual. Add to the fact that it is now a sub 15k pop card, the deflationary pressure has seen this cards price soar in recent times. And this is why this is one of those cards that I believe has a high potential for investment growth while maintaining use case. It would not surprise me to see this card reaching $100+ mark in the mid term future.

Price Change: $25.00-$23.80
Regular Foil Population Change: 14,736-14,725

SPOTLIGHT WEEK 2 REVISTED - Silvershield Knight

Silvershield Knight- Alpha/Beta Series - Life - Common
Abilities: Inspire (lvl 1), Piercing (lvl 4), Trample (lvl 8)

The Silvershield Knight starts as a mid level tank for 6 summoning points and starts with Inspire ability. This give 2 attack and fast 4 speed with some armour and health to make it a good all round melee unit.

Thoughts - One of my favourite cards in Splinterlands and with good reason. It's a decent tank with good speed and in a mellee only strategy gives you a devastating edge with damage. I often like to use this with Lorna Shine and go for an all out charge on my opponents. Not only is this card popular now, I cannot see it losing popularity. Recently it was in the $2.24 range and at that price was an absolute steal! And people saw that and it quickly jumped back up. Under 20k of these remaining in circulation and at lvl 4 gains the piercing ability. This is why I not only think this card is a great asset to any deck, but a sound investment for those looking to HODL as whales and players alike continue to want this card for added benefits that come later on including trample at lvl 8.

UPDATE: Not much price movement, and only just 7 burns! A slight pull down in price makes this Knight that little bit more juicy to buy.

Price Change Since Episode 2: $3.95-$3.70
Population Change Since Episode 2: 18,899-18,892
