Splinterlands Card Population Spotlight - Week 1 20.01.22-27.01.22

In this series I am going to drop 5 Random cards weekly into the spotlight to analyse population decline over the course of the week. The aim of these posts are to hopefully get people to identify the deflationary pressure rate on certain cards relative to their price and popularity and hopefully help you determine which cards you may need to make a move on (before they become out of reach financially). This week I am looking at cards under the $5 mark. I hope you enjoy!

Harvester

Harvester - Reward Series - Earth - Common
The Harvester is often used as a basic low summoning point tank. It's 7 health provide some reasonable protection. Can be used as an option in reverse speed battles.

Thoughts - Harvester continues to see a large volume of combining. This generally occurs with cards that have population over 100k. At the moment it's hard to see any real deflationary pressure impacting the price anytime soon as it is rare to see the harvester in play in the lower leagues where most players are found.

Weekly Price Change: $.14-$.12

Weekly Population Change: 168,913-168,160

Demented Shark

Demented Shark - Reward Series - Water - Common
The Demented Shark is a valuable asset to any water deck. The starting inspire ability gives a +1 attack boost to all melee cards in play for the user, making this common card quite popular in medium to high summoning point battles where the owner chooses a melee dominated strategy.

Thoughts - Even though the population of this card still stands at over 160k, it's quite clear to see this card is popular relative to price. My personal long term prospects on this aggressive shark is bullish and I think over time this card will still remain somewhat popular option and particularly while the card remains under $5. But be careful not to wait too long as the current burn/combining rates of this card remain high and while it hasn't impacted the price since it's drop after Chaos release, at nearly 3000 burned in just one week, in a year or two from now you may be looking back wishing you had snagged a few to lvl up under $.60 cents.

Weekly Price Change: $.53-$.49
Weekly Population Change: 166,719-163,807

Gremlin Blaster

Gremlin Blaster - Reward Series - Neutral - Rare
The Gremlin Blaster is an explosive rare card that can splash out damage to surrounding opponents it hits.

Thoughts - Not a card that I see in play in the lower levels, it's hard for me to justify finding any real usecase until at least level 5 when it gains the Stun ability and even then I just feel like there are other cards out there that are of better use for 3 summoning points in strategies. The recent price dip for this dynamite wielding Gremlin reflects this sentiment. With just over 20k circulation, it's hard for me to see any popularity change unless new rules or abilities are added to compliment this card when in play.

Weekly Price Change:$1.15-$.90
Weekly Population Change: 20,338-20,315

Serpentine Spy

Serpentine Spy - Untamed Series - Fire - Common
The Serpentine Spy is a powerful and rather quick assassin starting with the Opportunity ability. While it doesn't have much health, the strategies for Serpentine are numerous with it's speed, attack and opportunity all being optional uses for this popular card.

Thoughts - For me, as an avid lover of the Fire Splinter, I couldn't be more bullish on the need for this card to be part of every players deck, particularly in the lower divisions. In combination with Tarsa, Pyre, Yodin Zaku, Marlic or even Plado Summoners you can almost be assured to find a strategy with this card for just 3 summoning points. Currently yo-yoing between roughly $3 and $4.75, many are taking the 'Opportunity' (no pun intended) to get this card and it shows with around 350 cards burnt/combined from just a population of 26k in the last week. I can't help but think this is a combination of people buying up while others are selling not realising this card is in high demand. This card is reaching a deflationary crossroad with it's current burn rate that is unsustainable to it's current low? price! I cannot see this card staying at this price for much longer.

Weekly Price Change: $4.00-$3.06
Weekly Population Change: 26,449-26,092

Lunakari Mistress

Lunakari Mistress - Untamed Series - Life - Epic
A powerful magic card, this Mistress comes packed with a punch ball of light that is particularly effective against those pesky cannon fodder units with no attack where she deals double damage using the Oppress ability. A handy all round magic card that is favourable when used with the Delwyn Dragonscale Summoner and particularly in reverse speed battle conditions.

Thoughts - With just over 8k population, I believe this card to be one of those of lower popularity that sometimes pop up in battle when you least expect it to in the lower levels. Not a go-to card for many unfortunately, but I believe there is some value to owning this card in terms of gameplay. In the same breath, I wouldn't go selling my SPS just to own one. Having said that, there are still 'Lunas' being burnt/combined and this always equates to less people being able to own this card for it's usecase. Long term, I think it will be one of those 'rarer' NFT's in the Splinterlands sphere that future whales will want to own just because it looks cool and for that I will say I am bullish on the investment side....just.

Weekly Price Change: $4.24-$3.39
Weekly Population Change: 8,056-8,042
