Splinterlands Battle Mage - Wands Out

Hello Splinterfans!

This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset Wands Out.

The Wands Out ruleset is a really fun ruleset and there are many possible ways to play it. It is a chance for you to get your best magic attack on and you may expect to face a very strong Alric or Obsidian magic deck, but now there are a few ways to counter these very strong decks too.

The main strategy that I like to play is to reduce the magic attack of your opponent with a summoner and some silence monsters and also put some strong tank with reflective shield or void magic ability in.

There can also be some tricky rulesets thrown in for good measure and then also things like making sure you have enough health to survive and tactical placing becomes very important.

In today's battle, we also have Rise of the Commons which mixes things up a bit and could throw some of your favorite tactics to the side.

Let's check this week's battle.

ROUND 1 - Captain's Ghost vs - Venari Bonesmith

With many of the decent legendaries out of action, it will be a desparate scrap for me here and therefore I decided to pick monsters with as much health as possible as tank and bring out Bortus to reduce their magic attack.

This could all be in vain though as Owster Rotwell with his reflective shield is going do some serious damage to my lineup with its low health.

After the first round, Venari Bonesmith falls along with Life Sapper. On my side, Captain's Ghost has also had enough.

ROUND 2

Although I enter round 2 with a 2 monster advantage, my team is severly weakened. My opponent has the clever Elven Mystic with his silence ability that probably has tipped the edge even more in his favor.

In round 2, one by one my monsters fall as each magic attack is reflective. What started as a great tactic has ended in disaster. The power of Owster Rotwell cannot be underestimated, especially in these battles without legendaries. At 131k DEC for a maxed out Owster, he has now moved up on my shopping list!

Summary:

Getting the strongest magic attack might be your first thought, but rather trying to debuff your opponent like what happened to me here. Not only was reflective shield used against me, with Elven Mystic, my magic attack was also reduced.

Although I also tried to use the stun attack to reduce my opponents attack ability, the reflective shield really put paid to that idea.

Some of my favorite tanks for this ruleset are Djinn Oshannus and Djinn Muirat. They provide some good resistance to a strong magic attack and can turn a game in your favor.

How do you play the Wands Out ruleset?
