In this post, I try to compile some of the common questions that new players (including myself) ask when starting out in Splinterlands. While I highly doubt that I can cover them all, I still hope that this can help new Splinterlands players.
NOTE: This won't cover any strategic gameplay questions such as: a.) What is the best counter for Mylor? b) What is the best strategy for moving up from Bronze to Gold, etc.?
Here it goes!
1. Is there a way to increase the Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) that I get from my battles?
Yes, the best way is to move to a higher league. The greater your League, the higher your DEC rewards.
Other factors (that are in your control) which can increase your DEC rewards:
- DEC capture rate
- Win streak (start at 5% DEC bonus)
- Gold foil cards (each used gold foil cards earns a 10% bonus)
- Alpha/Promo cards (each used card earns a 10% bonus)
- Guild bonus (depends on the level of Guild's Quest Lodge, maximum bonus of 20%)

2. Why is my energy capture rate (ECR) decreasing? How can I increase my ECR?
ECR gradually diminishes each time a Ranked battle is played. An average battle costs about 1% reduction in ECR.
Meanwhile, ECR regenerates by 1.04% per hour. The only way at the moment to increase ECR is to not play for a while.
3. Is it possible to increase the chests from daily quests?
Yes, there are two ways to increase the number of chests obtained from finishing the daily quests:
Buying a quest potion in the shop
One quest potion gives you one charge, which is automatically used once you claim the reward from your daily quest. This gives you 5 additional reward chests.Moving up to a higher league, these are the respective chest rewards for each league.

4. What can I get from the reward chest?
- Reward Cards - 33%
- DEC - 33%
- Legendary Potions - 16.5%
- Alchemy Potions - 16.5%
- Booster Pack - 1%
5. What is power and how do I increase it? How much power does a certain card cost?
Power is based on the size and quality of your playable card collection. This is based on the total corresponding DEC burning value of all your owned and rented cards.

For illustration, here is my rented Gold foil Gloridax Soldier. This has a Rare rarity and it came from the Rewards deck.
As you can see, it gives 2,000 DEC when burned, which matches the DEC burning chart that is showed above.
6. What is SPS? How do I get more SPS?
From SPS whitepaper: Splintershards (SPS) is a governance token which will be integrated into Splinterlands in order to provide increasing levels of decision-making ability and control over the product to the player-base, asset owners, and other stakeholders.
Aside from buying SPS directly, you can get more SPS by participating in the ongoing SPS airdrop (currently at day 24/365). To participate in the SPS airdrop, you need to hold Splinterlands in-game assets, which has a corresponding airdrop points. Of course the higher value of your in-game assets, the higher your SPS airdrop points will be.

7. How do I level up my summoner & monster? Is there a benefit to leveling up my summoner?
You can level up your monsters & summoners by combining the required number of cards as can be seen under the stats tab of your corresponding card.
Let's use Cerberus as an example: in order for Cerberus to reach level 2, you need to combine 3 cards of Cerberus, and to increase its level to 3, you need 5 cards of Cerberus. Within the corresponding row, you can also see the stats changes with your monster as its level increases.
Increasing the level of your summoners is essential as a lower level summoner limits the level of the monsters that you can play.
Let's use Malric Inferno as an example, the highest level that you can play for a level 2 Malric Inferno is a level 3 Common monster , a level 2 Rare & Epic monster, and a level 1 Legendary monster. So if you are planning to play a Level 3 rare card with a level 2 Malric Inferno, its level will be capped at 2.
8. How can I check how much time do I have left for my current rentals?
It can be accessed via PeakMonsters (a very useful tool that you must explore).
Here are the steps:
- First, login with your account in PeakMonsters
- Second, click bulk view
- Lastly, sort using "Delegated To (Rent remaining)" column
Voila! You can now see which cards are about to expire.

As I am still having a hard time remembering specific monsters and rules, my favorite section in Splintercards is this. It helps a lot in thinking of possible counters and dealing with unfamiliar abilities in matchmaking rules.
