This week the chosen monster is non other than death common Crypt Beetle. I prefer to use other lead tank monsters with death such as Haunted Spirit or Cursed Windeku. Still I can see Crypt Beetle being a decent tank monster in low mana matches.
Battle Formations
In this battle the mana count was a low 17 while the rule set had opportunity. This means to me it would best use with melee monsters and since death had the legendary Waka as summoner I went with a death formation.
I started off with my favorite tanker in Haunted Spirit followed with Crypt Beetle, Skeleton Assassin, Maggots, and ending with Furious Chicken. On the opposite end my opponent lead off with Cursed Windeku, Corpse Fiend, Shadowy Presence, Life Sapper, Death Elmental and ending with Furious Chicken.
My opponent filled up their lineup with a lot of monsters but not very aggressive in attacking beyond that of Windeku. That maybe due to their undoing as I had all my monsters with melee attack ready to go.
Round 1
At the end of first round it was clear I was not any better than my opponent. I lost both my Crypt Beetle and Maggots at the end of the round. On the other hand my opponent was pretty much intact besides its Furious Chicken but it was good use as it basically was a filler that delay sneak attacks.
Round 2
At the end of round 2 I was in much worse of a shape as I was down to only Skeleton, but my opponent still had four monsters. Worse off it appeared Windeku had enough to take out my Skeleton.
Round 3
It ended in three rounds and I was completely outplayed even with my higher level cards and more expensive formation going against my opponent.
Conclusions
Crypt Beetle did not show its effectiveness as it was knocked out at the beginning round. The reality was my formation was no match against my opponent. In addition a clear Chaos Legions beating out older series cards which has been seen multiple times in game.
Crypt Beetle may have better use if it was at higher level while use in match. A health of 2 at 1 bcx does not seem like enough health to survive attacks.
