My Weekly Battle Mage Secrets - Taking Sides

new_BMS_banner.png

I love the idea that the Weekly Battle Challenge changed instead of featuring a monster to represent a ruleset. It is so good to do something different than usual and I hope they will continually do this in the future. The best way would be to mix these challenges, so every week would be more interesting.

This week we need to show a ruleset, which is the Taking Sides and the way I used it to my (dis)advantage in the Battle I played. 😇

My only problem with this new system is that it is very difficult to do battles with the specific ruleset featured for the week challenge, because it is random what you are going to get and even if you have that ruleset you need to win it somehow, which is not always easy. 😏

There are no special tricks for this ruleset, but make a balanced team.

This ruleset is an annoying one, because it eliminates the option to choose from the Neutral monster pool. The Neutral monsters are quite strong, because it is possible to use them with any other Splinter independent from their color. The Dragon Splitner is an amazing choice for this ruleset, because they can use twice the amount of monsters than the other Splinters. 🤫

RulesetDescription
Heavy HittersAll Monsters have the Knock Out ability.
Taking SidesNeutral Monsters may not be used in battles.
Briar PatchAll Monsters have the Thorns ability.

The mana cap was 41, which is quite nice, because it allows me to choose whatever monster I want, but unfortunately the Dragon Splinter were banned from this battle, so I had to pick a single color Splinter.

The Heavy Hitters ruleset works only if you can Stun the enemy monster, because it does double damage against a Stunned enemy. I already mentioned the Taking Sides ruleset, which will eliminate all the Neutral monsters from this battle on both sides.

The Briar Patch is one of my favorite ruleset, because it gives Thorns damage to all the monsters on the battlefield, which means I need to try not to use many Melee attack monsters on my side, because they will suffer some reflected damage back to themselves if they hit their target. 😇

My lineup and the decision behind it!

Summoner
Obsidian

image.png

The Obsidian is ana amazing Summoner on its own, because he gives +1 Magic to all of his friendly monsters like Alric Stormbringer from the Water Splinter. The other advantage of her is that she can use only Magic attack monsters in her team and she is able to ignore the Thorns damage completely. 🤗

Main Tank
Regal Peryton

image.png

The Regal Peryton is not the strongest tank in the game, but he has a lot of Speed, which comes handy if another Melee or Ranged attack monster will try to hit him. He cost only 5 mana, which is an easy fit into any kind of setup, but more importantly he has +2 Magic damage +1 from the Obsidian to annihilate his enemies. 😆

The Martyr
Fungus Flinger

image.png

The Fungus Flinger and his Martyr ability became the new meta in the game, because it will increase all the stats of his neighbours by one when he dies. This ability means a lot of difference if you manage to buff up an already strong monster. 😉

The Goddess of the Battle

Quora Towershed

image.png

Quora Towershed is an amazing candidate to be a target for the Martyr ability and as soon as the Fungus Flinger dies she will receive a huge advantage. She also has the Bloodlust ability, which means if she kills her target she will also increase her own stats by one. This can be absolutely insane and any times I saw her growing her powers over +10, which will make her almost indistructible, because she has the self Heal ability as well. 😍

Support and Damage Dealer

Goblin Psychic

image.png

The Goblin Psychic also has +3 Magic attack damage, because of the Obsidian, but his most important ability is the Tank Heal, which is necessary to keep the monster front of him alive and if my opponent happen to bring another monster with the Heal ability the Goblin Psychic is able to switch that off with a 50% chance on hit. 🤞

Decoy and Damage Dealer

Mycelic Slipspawn

image.png

The Mycelic Slipspawn cost 8 mana, whic his a bit pricey, but her role is to attract all the enemy attack into herslef giving enough time for the rest of her team to deal significant damage against the enemy monsters. She has 11 Health, which is enough to sustain few attacks from the opponent monsters and usually it is a good idea to use some monsters with the Triage ability to heal her up in the backline. 😜

The Untouchable Damage Dealer

Djinn Biljka

image.png

The Djinn Biljka is one of my first legendary monster that I acquired, because it was part of the previous reward cards and he is quite powerful. It is true that his Speed and Health is low, but his Camouflage ability is there to help him surviving all the incoming attacks, because none of the enemy monsters are able to target him with direct damage unless he is the last monster left on his team. 🤩

My opponent brought a Death Summoner who gives -1 Health to all of the enemy monsters, but more importantly he has the ability to use one Gladiator card per battle, which is only allowed in Guild Brawl's. Those Gladiator cards are pretty strong, because they have the Bloodlust ability, which means when they kill a monster they will increase their own stats by one.

Luckily my opponent brought his Gladiator card as his tank, which was an easy kill for my full Magic attack team, before he could kill any of my monster. In the same first round my team also managed to kill his Revealer who is quite strong, because he is able to Stun his opponents.

In the second round my team killed two of his monsters using their increased Magic attack and i have lost only my Mycelic Slipspawn who has fulfilled his role as a decoy protecting his fellow monsters.

There was only two monster left in the enemy team and it was pretty easy to finish them off without to much of a hassle! If my opponent would bring Thaddius Brood who gives -1 Magic attack and Health to my monsters the outcome of this battle might be different. 😅
