Welcome to yet another Splinterlands Art Contest post from yours truly, lolodens!
For this week, I decided to draw the gangster Underboss Fabino, an Earth Element summoner with a powerful buff for the cards he summons.
He can grant additional melee attack power to his units and even poison enemies. Cool, right? If your Earth Element deck has strong melee attackers, it’s a good idea to use him. He’s also great for quickly eliminating your opponent’s healer, preventing them from healing their allies.
So, for this week, I experimented with a new drawing style. I noticed I’m not really good at drawing lines, and instead of forcing myself to improve (something I’ve tried for a long time), I decided to change my approach.
I looked for a brush that didn’t require super-stable strokes, and luckily, I found one. For this artwork, I used a charcoal brush and a rough brush.
I started with a rough sketch of the character and gradually thickened the outlines. I also used these outlines to add shadows, though I’ll still apply shading when I color later.
I thought of placing Fabino on an elegant chair since he’s a gangster boss. I also made him look fiercer than how he appears in the lore.
For coloring, I created a layer beneath the outline and started filling it with color, matching the character’s design from Splinterlands lore.
After adding the main colors, I applied shading and highlights by layering light and dark tones that matched my base colors.
For the background, I simply darkened it with black to give the artwork a more badass vibe.
My Finished Artwork!
