Most of the summoners that we play with are rare. When we get them up to level 4 we can pair them with level 5 commons, level 4 rares, level 3 epics and level 2 legendary monsters. It's interesting that you can't go any higher with legendary monsters than you did with level 3 rare summoners, so you won't see any legendary monsters on this list, but at level 4 you can start playing level 3 epic monsters so you'll see some of those return to these upgrade lists.
I think these are some of the most impactful water monsters to start leveling up from Rebellion if you happen to have some level 4 rare summoners to pair them with. These upgrades will also work if you have level 2 legendary summoners, level 3 epic summoners or level 5 common summoners.
At level 5 Mar Toren Seeker picks up the phase ability.
At level 5 Daigendark Surveyor picks up the slow ability. This is another example of a 2 mana monster that stacks well with the rare summoner from Chaos Legion.
At level 4 Argarux Magus picks up the bloodlust ability which is downright spicy.
At level 4 Sea God of Eight picks up the heal ability. It's like having Sea Monster available in Modern.
At level 4 Anasth Soothsayer picks up the lookout ability.
The epic monsters from the water splinter both pick up meaningful upgrades at level 3. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The water splinter is overpowered.
When picking out new cards to level up, it's important to consider whether you'll be playing in modern or wild format. All of the cards that I discussed in today's post are legal in modern. If you start to level these cards up remember that they will revert to a lower level if you play them with a rare summoner at level 1, 2 or 3, or even a level 1 legendary summoner.
