Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Even Stevens - Winning due to protect

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Even Stevens rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Lost Legendaries and Even Stevens. This means only even mana monsters can be used and no legendary monsters can be used in this fight. There are also 45 mana available and I am left with the choice of water or death splinter.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Thaddius Brood. It reduces my enemy's health and magic by 1.

My plan is to use Cursed Windeku as my tank. The thorns and heal will let it survive longer and hopefully win me the match. Besides that I have Ravenhood with protect and inspire to make my tank stronger. Last but not least is a ranged monster with shatter in my last spot so I can take out those monsters in front faster.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this is an even match. My opponent has poison while I have protect and inspire. I do think that there is a slight edge in my direction because my opponent put his ranged monster before his magic monster. Maybe he did so for the sneak monsters but I didn't use any.

Round 2

round 2.png
I am a bit unlucky because my opponent poisoned me. but I didn't miss any attacks so I should have an advantage over my opponent because my ranged monsters attack before his Cursed Windeku.

Round 3

round 3.png
I didn't miss any attacks again and I was able to drop my opponent down to 1 monster. Even with the poison, I can heal that amount of damage every turn. So this match is my win.

As I expected, I won the match.

Conclusion

The battle went exactly like I expected and I was quite lucky that there were no sneak monsters. My choice to use ranged monsters worked out well because they had a speed advantage over melee and my opponent messed up when he decided to put his ranged monster before his magic monster. Either it, it was a close match but I was glad my strategy worked out. The poison could have been quite dangerous though because my tank was the only thing maintaining my high damage in that fight. Also, that protect was one of the key deciding factors in winning that match because my tank was only 1 health away from dying.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
